Last week, the annual AECO Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators conference 2024 was held in Oslo, Norway. 𝗔𝗘𝗖𝗢 brings together key players in Arctic expedition cruising, focusing on responsible practices in the region. This year, a large delegation from Greenland attended the conference, where local operators had a valuable opportunity to engage in direct conversations with cruise lines. These discussions are important for building stronger connections and addressing key issues facing Greenland’s cruise tourism sector. 🚢 🌊 Here, we participated in the 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 event, where representatives from 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘃𝘂𝘁, 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, and 𝗦𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗱 showcased local offerings and connected with industry leaders, opening new opportunities for communities.🤝 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗸𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘆, and 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗾 each gave presentations showcasing the unique offerings of their regions. We at Visit Greenland provided an update on Greenland's 2024 cruise tourism landscape, along with key facts about the country. The conference continued with the 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, which featured presentations on important topics, including upcoming tourism regulations in Greenland, presented by Salik Hard from the Government of Greenland, a keynote on the future of Arctic expedition cruising, panel discussions and many more. 📢📋 💡 If you are curious about the AECO conference you can read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/dNKJdtxG #GrowGreenland

Together with Nalik Ventures and with inputs from Innovation South Greenland, we recently hosted workshops in Nanortalik as part of our joint project, SIUARTA. SIUARTA’s mission is to promote responsible tourism and business development in Greenland’s smaller towns by identifying local needs and fostering entrepreneurship. The key here is the flexible approach, adapting to the realities in Nanortalik to make sure the community gets the most out of what’s being offered.🏘️ The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including tourism operators, people with entrepreneurial dreams, a car repair shop owner, and representatives from the hotel industry. This wide range of perspectives enriched the discussion and ensured that the ideas generated reflected the real needs of the local community.💡 The workshops covered: 💭 Entrepreneurship, idea generation, and business planning 🤗 Service, with a strong focus on hospitality 📱 Marketing and social media, with an emphasis on storytelling 🗓️ Pricing strategies for tourism businesses, especially around seasonal activities By customizing our approach for each destination, we aim to equip local communities with the tools to take ownership of their tourism and business initiatives, supporting them in their entrepreneurial and business development efforts.💼 The upcoming SIUARTA workshops are set to take place in Ittoqqortoormiit in East Greenland later this month, followed by sessions in Upernavik and Qaannaaq in North Greenland next month. #GrowGreenland
