  • Imagine The Gambia free from measles? It's possible through vaccination! 💉 On #WorldMeaslesDay, let's remember: 🛡 Measles is preventable. 🛡 Vaccines are our strongest defense. 🛡 Every child deserves protection. Vaccines against measles are available at all health facilities across the country. UNICEF Gambia urges parents and guardians to ensure their children are fully vaccinated. Together, we can close the immunization gap and ensure a measles-free Gambia. #ForEveryChild health #VaccinesWork #UNICEFGambiaAt60

Exciting news!🎉 Earlier today, we handed over a fully refurbished in-patient malnutrition ward for children and a newly built water and sanitation facility to Bansang Hospital through the National Nutrition Agency. This ward is equipped with critical medical devices, which will serve the mothers and new borns in the community. It is also equipped with toys, making the place child friendly. This altogether will enhance effective and efficient management of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). We extend our thanks Japan - The Government of Japan and people of Japan for supporting our efforts to protect children from malnutrition through timely screening and treatment. #ForEveryChild Zero Malnutrition #UNICEFGambiaAt60 Nafisa Shafique Nitasha Kulashreshtha UNICEF

Happy International Women's Day! 💜 Today, I celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. But here in The Gambia, this day carries an even deeper meaning. It’s a moment to honor the women who wake up every day and push forward—whether they are leading change, raising families, supporting their communities, or simply refusing to give up in the face of challenges. For me, the real heroes are the everyday Gambian women—especially my phenomenal colleagues at UNICEF Gambia—who juggle so much, at work and at home, yet never stop striving to create a better future for children. Their dedication, compassion, and perseverance inspire me every single day. This year’s theme, "Accelerate Action," feels urgent and personal. Did you know that at the current rate, it could take until 2158 to reach gender equality? That’s five generations from now! We cannot afford to wait that long!! This morning, I sat with my women colleagues, and we talked—not just about work, but about our journeys, our struggles, our hopes and dreams. We reminded each other of the power of lifting as we climb—mentoring, supporting, and standing up for one another and of course strengthening our network. Together, we made a promise: to keep pushing, to keep showing up, and to keep making space for one another and most importantly for the next generation of women leaders. Later, I had the privilege of joining the International Women’s Day celebration with the UN Resident Coordinator, other Heads of UN agencies, and the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare. Seeing so many incredible Gambian women and girls being celebrated was powerful—especially those living with disabilities, proving every day that nothing can hold them back. On a personal note, I think about my own journey—how a girl from South Asia, against the odds, got to chase her dreams and now works to make life better for children around the world. This reminds me of the strength and determination of Gambian women, who refuse to let challenges define their futures. So today, I want to say - We are in this together. My team and I are committed to doing more—to protect girls, to fight for women’s rights, and to ensure every woman and girl is protected and has the chance to thrive. Will you join us? 💜 #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction #GenderEquality #UNICEFGambiaAt60 #ForEveryChild

Re-affirming my commitment to Child Rights in The Gambia! Working at UNICEF inspires me daily. It encourages me to commit to a cause that changes lives. I look at what UNICEF has achieved for women and children in The Gambia and I stall tall and proud as I answer: Who is going to advocate for Child Rights and Gender Equality? I AM #ForEveryChild Who is going to ensure that girls are protected against FGM and other harmful traditional practices? I AM #ForEveryChild Who is going to ensure children have access to quality education? I AM #ForEveryChild Today from the smiling coast of Africa, I stand with child rights champions globally, not just as a beacon of hope, but as an active force for change. I pledge more than just commitment; I pledge action! I will tirelessly advocate for their rights, ensuring they not only survive, but thrive. Join me and many others participating in I AM #ForEveryChild and help ensure we work together to build a safer, more hopeful future.
