Honoring Ceremony in Memory of Kleon Tsetis, Founder of OFET, in Arta -& the KLEON TSETIS NPCC that Continues to Bring His Vision to Life   An honoring ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Arta, the birthplace of visionary scientist and pioneering entrepreneur Kleon Tsetis, founder of UNI-PHARMA Pharmaceutical Laboratories S.A. & InterMed Pharmaceutical Laboratories S.A. , marking fifteen years since his passing. The event took place under the auspices of the Municipality of Arta. The Mayor of Arta, Mr. Christoforos Siafakas, began his speech by highlighting the remarkable contributions of the late Kleon Tsetis in the fields of health, industry, and society—a journey that left a distinct and lasting impact. He also emphasized how the Tsetis family continues his legacy, remaining faithful to his life philosophy. With honor and respect for the journey and contributions of Kleon Tsetis, speeches were delivered by the Metropolitan of Arta, Kallinikos; the Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis; Members of Parliament, Ms. Olga Gerovasili and Mr. Georgios Stylios; the President of the Πανελλήνια Ένωση Φαρμακοβιομηχανίας (ΠΕΦ) - PEF, Mr. THEODOROS TRYFON; the President of the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association (ΠΦΣ) , Mr. Apostolos Valtas ; and the author and native of Arta, Ms. Penelope Kourtzi Tsakalos. Ms. Julia Tseti, President and CEO of OFET, MSc Pharmacist, and Honorary Doctor of Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Patras, delivered an emotional speech about her father's notable contributions to science, industry, and society, as well as the Non-Profit Civil Company (NPCC) KLEON TSETIS, established in his memory. Among other things, she mentioned: "It is a day of celebration and honor for my late father, Kleon, whom most of you knew personally—a restless and creative spirit who passed away 15 years ago. He was a man deeply passionate about research, industrial production, pharmaceuticals, and health. In his memory, together with my sister, Irene, we founded the Non-Profit Civil Company KLEON TSETIS, which supports research in medical sciences and culture. It is inspired by our father's vision and the unwavering values that continue to guide the industries he established, UNI-PHARMA and InterMed Pharmaceutical Laboratories. "The underrepresentation of women in positions of responsibility, management, and leadership clearly highlights how deeply prejudices still govern us and how far we are from overcoming major and deeply ingrained social stereotypes. While empowering women, providing mentoring, and establishing new leadership models are essential, they are not enough. We urgently need targeted policies and reforms that foster a more inclusive and equitable environment. These initiatives must tangibly and measurably support women's roles in modern entrepreneurship, the economy, senior leadership and management positions, encourage their participation in technology and digital transformation, and recognize their vital contribution to the health sciences. We often talk about women's entrepreneurship and the significant challenges they face. But why don’t we talk about men's entrepreneurship? How fair and inclusive is it to create these distinct lines of reference? The obstacles women face are not only institutional, cultural, financial, economic, or political—they are fundamentally structural. The latest issue of K magazine by Kathimerini was dedicated to women, highlighting key discussions on gender equality and inclusion. In her article, featured in this special issue, our President, Julia Tseti emphasizes the fundamental importance of equity in the workplace—not only as a matter of justice but also as a critical driver of sustainable business growth and social cohesion. As Julia Tsetis underlines: “Inclusion, acceptance of diversity, and gender equality in the workplace is not only a matter of justice but also a timeless challenge for the economy and society. Human capital is the true intangible wealth of every business, and equality is a fundamental prerequisite for prosperity, sustainable development, and business progress. It is also essential for fostering a mutually trusting and cohesive relationship with society. The role of businesses in this regard is critical. The latest survey by SEV (Hellenic Federation of Enterprises), titled "Operation Equality", revealed that the average gross full-time salary for women is 13% lower than that of men, while women remain underrepresented in leadership positions. It is disheartening that 53% of businesses report zero or very limited female participation on their Boards of Directors, while 1 in 10 businesses has no women in a managerial or departmental leadership role. The issue of workplace equality remains an ongoing challenge—one that will define our responsible, committed, and proactive stance toward employees. The country’s business and institutional stakeholders have a moral obligation to remain vigilant and continuously reassess the seamless functioning of each corporate work environment, ensuring the full and comprehensive inclusion of women in business activities. Global superpowers pave the way, while smaller, less influential countries follow suit. But in this case, how can we meaningfully discuss reducing inequalities and fostering inclusion while still addressing matters of global public health? If the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored anything with unmistakable clarity, it is that health crises will persist—indeed, they are only just beginning. The climate crisis, looming large on the horizon, is merely the tip of the iceberg for what is yet to come… Beyond public health emergencies, the global health landscape faces pressing concerns: non-communicable diseases (NCDs), rare disorders, relentless scientific research for groundbreaking therapies, and the continuous development of vaccines—efforts spearheaded by the scientific community and leading research institutions worldwide.
