【Accelerating Hong Kong’s Land and Marine Transport Decarbonisation】 On 25 October, the “Hong Kong Transportation Decarbonisation Blueprint” Industry Seminar brought together Ernst & Young, the Business Environment Council, industry leaders, various associations, NGOs and academia. The seminar aimed to accelerate Hong Kong’s transport decarbonisation journey for commercial vehicles and domestic harbour crafts, sharing valuable insights and lessons from international case studies. Dr. Saraansh Dave, eMobility Director of CLP Power, presented CLP Power’s innovative energy solutions and technologies to meet the growing electricity demand of Hong Kong’s expanding EV market. He introduced the self-developed eMobility Grid Management Platform (eGMP), a collaborative platform with charging operators to share and analyse EV charging data to assess the utilisation and patterns of charging stations across various locations in Hong Kong, helping to optimise grid planning and resource allocation. He highlighted that CLP Power provides tailored power supply solutions specifically for EV charging operators, which help reduce construction time and costs, thereby accelerating the establishment of outdoor fast charging stations. Key stakeholders shed light on global trends, shared best practices for fleet electrification, and provided in-depth analysis on the development of new energy solutions, equipping participants with the latest market information for effective planning. Through collaboration and exchanges, we can achieve greater synergy to promote the eMobility ecosystem, and contribute to the transformation into a greener and smarter city!

【Reliability Matters: The Journey to Carbon Neutrality】 This is the story of Zachary Wong, Manager – eMobility! Zachary has been passionate about clean energy since his school days, and he participated in a world-class solar car competition in Australia! At that time, his team used their self-developed solar car to analyse various data and completed a 3,000-kilometre course with minimal energy consumption. This unforgettable experience drove him to continue developing in the field of clean energy. Working at the eMobility team of CLP now, he and the team work closely with government departments, property managers, charging operators, and car manufacturers to supply power for electric vehicles, promoting a more comprehensive eMobility experience.   The team also introduces the new concept of V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technology, where electric vehicles are not just means of transportation but also large batteries, enabling bidirectional energy flow. 【CLP Power Deploys a Flying Squad of Helicopters and Drones to Enhance Inspection Efficiency】 Did you know that CLP Power manages a network of over 17,000 km of transmission and distribution lines, longer than the Earth’s diameter? More than 30% of the transmission network consists of overhead lines, making it more vulnerable to extreme weather conditions and interference from external objects. Thanks to a flying squad of helicopters and drones to inspect pylons and overhead lines, we are able to maintain a power supply reliability of 99.999%. KM Tang, Senior engineer of Transmission Department, leads a team of 19 members who are responsible for conducting wide-area inspections using helicopters and close-up observations with drones. In recent years, drones have been deployed to extend the range of operations, significantly improving inspection efficiency. KM emphasises the importance of thorough preparation and communication during inspections, citing the challenges encountered during Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018. His team navigated fallen trees and landslides to swiftly assess damages and coordinate all repairs within 10 days after the typhoon. “Helicopters and drones provide us with a more efficient and time-effective inspection solution, enabling a stable and resilient power system in the long term,” adds KM. #HelicoptersandDrones #InpsectionSolution #CLPPower #Reliabilty #Overheadlines

【CLP, BASF, and Envision Energy Sign Long-Term Power Purchase Agreement to Drive Green Transformation】   We are thrilled to announce that CLP, BASF, and Envision Energy signed a 10-year power purchase agreement in Nanjing on 10 October. 【Expert Metallurgical Examinations Ensure Seamless Operation of Power Generation】 At CLP Power, our Metallurgy Laboratory plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of power generation units around the clock by meticulously examining and analysing metal components. The daily tasks of engineers in the Laboratory include material verification, lifespan estimation, and failure analysis of metal parts used in power plants. Equipped with advanced techniques and high-tech equipment, the Laboratory inspects both the macro and microstructures of metal components to ensure their safety and applicability, while providing practical recommendations for faulty parts. Phoenix Cheng, an engineer in the Metallurgy Laboratory, pointed out that the Laboratory’s work goes far beyond routine maintenance, requiring a blend of expertise and experience in metallurgy, materials science, mechanical engineering, and chemistry. She also supports long-term planning of power plants by monitoring equipment conditions, developing engineering strategies, conducting performance review and addressing unexpected issues. “Examination procedures can take from a day to several months or even years to complete.
