Prof. #PeterYuen, Dean of PolyU CPCE, Dr #JasonChan, MH, JP, Associate Dean (Information and Development) of PolyU CPCE and Director of PolyU SPEED, Dr #AnthonyLoh, Director of PolyU HKCC, along with the four Division Heads and Interim Head of Student Affairs of PolyU CPCE, introduced the College’s overview, programme features, campus facilities, and co-curricular activities to the new students. In addition to giving goodie bags to the new students, the College also hosted quiz games with attractive prizes on the spot to create a lively atmosphere, allowing them to embark on their academic journey in a relaxed and joyful mood. Diabetic nephropathy is a major complication affecting diabetic patients. 【#教職員成就】 #PolyU_CPCE #理大專業及持續教育學院 院長 #阮博文 教授及多倫多International Business University院長吳偉昌博士（曾任PolyU SPEED副院長）獲委任為獨立顧問專家，評估加拿大「伴你同行 認知障礙症資訊站」項目。該資訊站是由頤康中心與多倫多大學Factor-Inwentash社會工作學院合作開發，並獲加拿大公共衛生局（PHAC）資助。PolyU CPCE副院長(資訊及發展)兼資訊科技總監 #陳繼宇 博士MH太平紳士獲邀從技術層面評估該資訊站的功能。 預計到2050年，加拿大將有近25%的認知障礙症患者為亞裔，該資訊站為加拿大及其他地區的華人社區提供了重要及切合亞裔文化的認知障礙症資源和支援。該項目亦 #獲PHAC納入議會報告，#作為加拿大國家認知障礙症策略的一部分。 【#StaffAchievements】 Prof. #PeterYuen, Dean of PolyU CPCE, and Dr Artie Ng, Dean of International Business University in Toronto (formerly Deputy Director of PolyU SPEED), were appointed as Independent Consultants to evaluate a project – “Dementia Guidance Online Resource Hub for Chinese Communities in Canada” – implemented jointly by the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care and the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, and funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Dr #JasonChan, MH, JP, Associate Dean (Information and Development) and Head of Information Technology of PolyU CPCE, was subsequently invited to assess the Hub’s technical performance. It has been estimated that by 2050, almost 25% of people developing dementia in Canada will be of Asian origin. This hub will provide much-needed, culturally-appropriate dementia resources and support for Chinese communities in Canada and beyond. The comprehensive curriculum is designed by specialists from PolyU’s #Department_of_Rehabilitation_Sciences, covering essential elements of sports physiotherapy, from “Immediate Care for Emergency, Traumatic, and Medical Conditions” 🏥, “Principles of Sports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation”, to “Exercise training principles” 🏋️♀️. The programme boasts a team of distinguished tutors, including academics from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and experienced sports physiotherapists from HKPA. Students will be able to gain hands-on experience with on-field physiotherapy services under their guidance. Prof. Peter Yuen, Dean of PolyU CPCE, was interviewed recently on the #TVB programme #News_Magazine to shed light on the issue. Prof. Yuen, a renowned scholar in health economics, pointed out that dealing with infinite demands with limited resources may not be sustainable. With the problem of an aging population 🧓 in Hong Kong becoming more serious and the number of taxpayers decreasing, this directly affects the public purse available to subsidise public hospital expenses. Together with issues like medical inflation, it is thus essential for the public healthcare system to undergo reform in the long term 🏥. He suggested that the government should increase the proportion of funding for primary healthcare and redirect some medical cases to be managed by the primary healthcare system, which could help improve cost-effectiveness and save public money.
