At Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong, #sustainability is more than just a buzzword - it’s a core part of our philosophy. We were proud to take part in the recent "sort-a-thon" volunteer activity for Redress . This was more than just a fantastic team-building exercise, where we worked side by side to sort through mountains of donated clothing. It was also an enlightening experience that prompted us to reconsider our own purchasing habits. Witnessing the vast quantity of donated clothes - much of which was still in perfectly wearable condition - offered us a stark insight into the levels of waste within the fashion industry. This has spurred us on to be more mindful in our purchases and to explore ways of extending the lifespan of our clothes. We are delighted to be contributing to the wider community effort to promote sustainability and make a positive impact. Today is #GlobalWindDay. The expansion of renewable energies like wind energy is an integral part of our sustainability business strategy. By 2039, our ambition is to run all our own production plants worldwide on 100 percent renewable energy. To achieve this goal, we are systematically gearing our locations up for this - with photovoltaic systems and wind power. In addition to an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, at our test track in Papenburg, northern Germany, plans for installing an onshore wind farm are taking shape. The new facility with approximately 20 turbines and a capacity of more than 120 MW will be build up on the site as part of a power purchase agreement (PPA). Tomorrow drives Mercedes-Benz. To this end, we are implementing a series of initiatives and technologies that will help us to produce our vehicles in a more sustainable way. We are stepping forward to our circular economy approach with the aim to reduce our carbon footprint. We are making strong progress towards these goals. Here are the key milestones: · Use of CO2-reduced steel, aluminium and recycled materials fast-track supply chain decarbonisation targets. · Rollout of our own global charging network with over 10,000 fast-charging points by 2030. · Construction of a battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, Germany – the first of its kind in Europe. · Net carbon-neutral fleet of new vehicles in 2039 – 11 years earlier than EU stipulates. · CO2 emissions per passenger car in the new vehicle fleet reduced by up to 50% along all stages of the value chain by the end of this decade compared to 2020 levels. · Launch of our electric-first platform MMA in 2025 marks the next step into our electric future.
