2025 PASLA Asian Securities Finance Conference: Retail & Wealth Management For the first time we shone a light on this important client segment; bringing participants representing retail aggregators, regional securities houses, digital platforms and the global asset management industry. According to the World Economic Forum retail participants global assets under management are expected to grow to over 61% by 2030, this is growing and critical constituent member of the market eco-system.   Key discussion points highlighted during the panel included: -Industry participants are now driving the business from Wall Street to Main Street. -Quantitative strategies within the hedge fund sector are driving the demand.  -Expectations of a “massive growth” in the demand for access product wrappers. -Gen Z is investing earlier than previous generations and relies on social media for investment advice, influencing their asset ownership. -The industry stands poised to enable the democratization of revenue streams. -Inventory diversification is key, this is new and un-tapped resource.   We extend our gratitude to Rick Lin, Stuart Jarvis, Keith Lee and Jon Whiting Witting for their insightful contributions to the discussion. 2025 PASLA Asian Securities Finance Conference: Beneficial Owner Panel Our discussion held on February 26th brought together representatives from three distinct beneficial owner franchises: Norges Bank Investment Management, Aware Super, and Vanguard. This allowed us to leverage varying business structures and geographical perspectives to explore a wide range of topics. Key discussion points highlighted during the panel included: -Business activities span a spectrum of solutions, including in-house management, agent collaboration, and hybrid models that combine both approaches. -There is no one-size-fits-all operating model; each organization is driven by unique business drivers, investment objectives, and varying risk capacities. -Emphasising high-value activities to extract beta revenues can lead to more optimal outcomes for all stakeholders involved. -While Total Return Swaps and derivatives are integral components of the product solution suite, they introduce additional complexities to existing business models. We extend our gratitude to Matthew Brunette, Jared Black, and Henry Trinh for their insightful contributions to the panel discussion, which focused on the asset-owning segment of the securities finance industry. Our appreciation also goes to Jansen Chua, CFA, FRM from State Street for moderating the panel. 2025 PASLA Asian Securities Finance Conference The 19th Annual PASLA Conference on Asian Securities Finance drew to a successful close last week, underscoring the region's dynamic and evolving securities finance landscape. Our professional networking opportunities are an integral part of the conference. As PASLA celebrates its 30th year anniversary, we hosted our inaugural Gala Dinner on the final evening of the Conference – gathering our industry members to honour the remarkable achievements within PASLA and from across the industry. The event was kicked off with a Lion Dance incorporating energetic moves and traditional banners that referenced both prosperity for the association and growth for the industry, celebrating with 10 market representatives from across the region and our Board. During the evening, we presented our inaugural Industry Awards: - PASLA Award for Working Group Leadership – awarded to Ed Oliver for leadership of The ASEAN Working Group - PASLA Award for Service to Industry – awarded to The Korean Working Group. 2025 PASLA Asian Securities Finance Conference   More than 400 attendees came together from across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas at our annual Asian Securities Financing conference last week.    This super connector event brought together more than 150 organisations, enabling the dialogue between Asset Managers, Beneficial Owners, Consultants, Hedge Funds, Investment Banks, Law firms, Securities Firms, Specialist Technology Vendors and Sovereign Wealth Funds.   Key themes emerged from our panel discussions during the two-day event, including:   -Institutional and Retail Investor Growth -Breadth of Securities Financing Products -Financing supports and drives Investment Access  -Innovation and Technology as a Competitive Edge -Enabling the market from “Wall Street” to “Main Street”   As our CEO mentioned earlier “…from the buy-side, to sell-side, to policy makers and stakeholders, engagement was high.”    Delivered through a new structure which included 10 panels, 2 workshops, a curated beneficial owner's dialogue, 2 keynote addresses.
