About us

Pirata Group was founded by Manuel Palacio and Christian Talpo’s mutual and insatiable passion for good food and memorable restaurants. Having forayed in the industry both abroad and in Hong Kong, the duo witnessed a need for good quality yet reasonably priced dining. Putting their heads together, they vowed to create concepts that would leave their guests with long-lasting beautiful memories. Together, Pirata Group team have worked hard to launch warm and approachable restaurants that challenge culinary traditions and explore new flavours. Born out of a respect for delicious global cuisines, each restaurant is led by like-minded individuals who put guest experience above all. It is our passion to host people from around the world and to have lifelong relationships with our guests, welcoming them with open arms each time. We strive to spread our enthusiasm through attentive service, delicious food, value for money. No matter the type of cuisine or restaurant location, our team hopes to continuously improve and share with each guest an unforgettable dining experience, each and every time.

    🏴☠️What an honour to have been named 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙&𝗕 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴 by Randstad's Employer Brand Research 2024. To us, Team Comes First. Our commitment to Unconditional Hospitality is rooted first in creating an unconditionally hospitable workplace for each other. We consist of 25 nationalities speaking over 30 languages. Diversity, equity and inclusion are simply in our nature. As purveyors of global cuisines, the only way we can create vibrant, authentic and enjoyable experiences for our guests is to nurture an international working culture that is open, honest, inviting, and appropriately challenging so we all can grow. Through the years, this has manifested into the development of a robust 2-way listening program with wellbeing surveys, quarterly town halls, and bi-annual performance reviews. We empower our Pirates through a variety of programs such as manager-in-training, continuous L&D, succession planning, wellness activities and more.     🏴☠️We believe that “Team comes first.” And looking after our staff, affectionately known as “Pirates,” includes looking after the community that their families inhabit and that their children will inherit. As a homegrown Hong Kong hospitality group, we acknowledge our role in looking after our fellow Hongkongers and of our common home. From humble beginnings with our Italian flagship and namesake restaurant, Pirata, to now 26 restaurants strong on our 10th year, serving 1.5 million guests annually, we are deeply aware and mindful of our footprint. 💧We're delighted to announce our partnership with Belu, a drinks business and social enterprise that gives 100% of its net profit to WaterAid to help transform lives worldwide with access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Belu filtered still and sparkling water is now available on tap in Pirata, Chaiwala, Calle Ocho, TokyoLima, The Optimist, TMK Rap & Rolls, TMK Funk & Rolls, and Honjokko, with more restaurants to be added soon. Since November 2023, Calle Ocho and Chaiwala have saved 19,548 bottles, preventing 77 tonnes of CO2e emissions in total by switching to Belu Filter in Action. This is nearly equivalent to the emissions from 19 return flights between London and Hong Kong. Furthermore, every 3 Belu refills save over 15kg of CO2 emissions and prevent 3 single-use glass bottles from going to waste. By the time reaching 500 refills, we're saving an amount of CO2 equivalent to a flight from Hong Kong to the UK. We're in the early stages of our sustainability journey, and we recognise that we can always do more. From humble beginnings with our Italian flagship and namesake restaurant, Pirata, to now 26 restaurants strong, serving 1.5 million guests annually... we're here.     🏴☠️We're pleased to announce the appointment of Stephan Joubert as Executive Chef of Hong Kong's first and original 🇵🇪🇯🇵nikkei izakaya, TokyoLima🍶 Stephan worked in Peruvian kitchens for 11 years prior to joining Pirata Group in 2019. He began in TokyoLima, then broadened his horizons by opening our cloud kitchen in Quarry Bay. Thereafter, he took over production kitchen operations in Wong Chuk Hang. A stint as Executive Chef in Honjo ensued, during which time the restaurant earned multiple distinctions from award giving bodies. Stephan's return to TokyoLima five years later is a poetic homecoming. A South African who relishes new challenges and thrives in high pressure environments, Stephan's rare combination of creativity, leadership and calmness brings out the best in his team in delivering extraordinary memorable experiences.     🍾Our Pici Kennedy Town team celebrates our crowned Pirate of the Year winner, Aliza Limbu - whose prize is a Trip for 2 to Vietnam including flights and accommodations! Aliza joined the Group as a Server almost three years ago, when we opened our 6th Pici on 55 Cadogan Street. This inspiring young lady, now a Supervisor, has since become a stalwart at our beloved neighbourhood pasta bar, epitomising our behavioural values of Teamwork, Be Nice, Commitment and Positivity. She is often mentioned by our beloved regulars as someone who provides exceptional guest experience, a real champion of Unconditional Hospitality. 🏴☠️Pirate of the Year is the culmination of a yearlong program that recognises a Pirate of the Month winner at each our three clusters: Asian, Western, and Pici / The Pizza Project / Delivery - both front-of-house and back-of-house.
