    Shangri-La Hotels Proudly Promoting Pink October Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women worldwide, representing one in every four cancer diagnoses. Every October, we stand with all women, helping to highlight that breast cancer is much more likely to be treated successfully with early detection and routine screening. Our hotels are long-standing supporters of Pink October. We’ve already shared some of the activities organised by our properties in Turkey and Oman, and colleagues at Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza in Taipei are joining in too. They took part in the Breast Cancer Prevention Charity Road Run, hosted by Marie Claire magazine, and the hotel lounges are holding pink high teas at weekends, generating funds for the Taiwan Cancer Clinical Research and Development Foundation. Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai 上海浦东香格里拉 also hosted pink afternoon teas and has organised its own pink yoga, bringing its teams together to showcase its commitment to health and wellbeing while raising greater awareness of breast cancer. These are just a few examples of our hotels’ efforts.     Pink Plans at Shangri-La Hotels This October We’re always proud to help women all over the world shine during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every 14 seconds, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, and since 1985, October has been a time to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and routine screening for its successful treatment. Our hotels are long-standing supporters of ‘Pink October’, as it has become known since the launch of the pink ribbon in the 1990s. For example, this year, Shangri-La Dubai is hosting a talk led by a breast cancer survivor and Vice President of Brest Friends Organisation to emphasise the importance of breast cancer awareness and education. Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah and Shangri-La Al Husn in Muscat welcomed the Muscat Health Centre for a clinic focusing on women’s health. The clinic covered a range of health topics, including providing breast examinations and interactive workshops. For the fourth year, Shangri-La The Shard, London teamed up with The Shard, to shine a light on 1 October, marking the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   Through our ongoing support for Pink October, we hope to play a part in minimising the profound impact of breast cancer on the lives of the women who work for, stay with, and live near us. That’s why this year and every year, we are proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is the most common cancer for women in almost every country, representing one in four cancer diagnoses. And when the pink ribbon was launched in the 1990s, Pink October was born.     Supporting ICM to help ultra-poor communities shine We are proud to have recently contributed to the major annual fundraising events of International Care Ministries (ICM), a non-profit working tirelessly to transform the futures of the ultra-poor. Established in 1992, ICM envisions a world where no child has to live in ultra-poverty. It takes a holistic approach to fighting complex issues, finding and serving people living in mountain, coastal and other hard-to-reach communities across the Philippines, Uganda and Guatemala. In September, inspired by our desire to enable everyone to unleash their potential, we continued our long-term support for ICM by once again donating to its annual banquets and auctions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila. Since 2019, we have been delighted to provide Shangri-La Circle points as raffle and auction prizes, rewarding winners for their positive contributions to local communities with unforgettable moments at our properties.
