[Cooking Contest Shines Light On “Unseen Carers”] In anticipation of International White Cane Day, Towngas partnered with the Hong Kong Blind Union to host “Unseen Carers: Delicious Culinary Idea-thon” to raise awareness and encourage more social support for visually impaired carers. For the event, 21 visually impaired individuals, each paired with a Towngas volunteer, prepared dishes in one hour based on their personal recipes at the Towngas Cooking Centre. To assist them in an unfamiliar environment, our volunteers helped by passing utensils and ingredients, while the cooking process was entirely led by the visually impaired contestants. Visually impaired individuals are not just recipients of care; they can also be self-reliant. Many, including some of the event’s participants, are also “unseen carers” for family members with chronic illnesses. From recipe design to food preparation and flame cooking, the visually impaired contestants demonstrated remarkable skills, proving their ability to overcome challenges and excel as caregivers. Before the event, to let our staff better understand the lives of visually impaired individuals, the Hong Kong Blind Union arranged for a visually impaired ambassador to share her experiences. Participating staff members had the opportunity to learn and practise sighted guide techniques, ensuring effective communication with visually impaired contestants on the day of the contest. The International White Cane Day is observed annually on 15 October to commemorate the invention of the white cane as a mobility aid for visually impaired individuals. The day aims to increase public awareness and understanding of visual impairment and promote inclusion. [Stepping Up Funding In Green Push] In recent media interviews, Henderson and Towngas Chairman Dr. Lee Ka Kit expressed his unwavering commitment to fostering a sustainable future by investing in clean energy start-ups through his family office, Full Vision Capital. As a leading entrepreneur, Dr. Lee recognises that climate change is one of the world’s most pressing challenges. He is resolute in his mission to fund innovative clean energy ventures that seek sustainable solutions. Under his leadership, Towngas has undergone significant transformations, achieving remarkable progress not only in the city-gas market but also in capturing a larger share of the photovoltaic market on the Chinese mainland. In 2021, our subsidiary was rebranded from "Towngas China" to "Towngas Smart Energy," focusing on the development of zero-carbon smart industrial parks. During the interviews, Dr. Lee shared insights about Full Vision Capital, which he founded a decade ago. Over the past ten years, the firm has successfully incubated companies valued at an impressive US$6.5 billion. He expressed confidence that Full Vision Capital’s investments are strategically positioned to address macro changes related to geopolitical dynamics, artificial intelligence, and climate change. The Full Vision Capital office has supported several notable projects, including EnerVenue, which specialises in next-generation nickel hydrogen batteries that could go through 30,000 continuous charging cycles over 30 years, and Luquos Energy, known for its advanced sulphur-based flow battery energy storage system in Shenzhen, China. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of a banker’s thinking mindset in risk management and the necessity of preparing for impending global challenges. The full article was published in today’s South China Morning Post and Hong Kong Economic Times. #Towngas #FullVisionCapital #10thAnniversary #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergy

[Brand Innovation Reinforces Our Commitment to Green Energy] To further emphasise our image as a green energy corporate, we have rebranded our logo that retains the simpler and fresher “Towngas”, aligning with current trends in energy transition and low-carbon development. Rooted in Hong Kong for over 160 years, Towngas has been continuously reducing its environmental impact and developing cleaner fuels. Although the Chinese-speaking public commonly refers to our company as “coal gas”, we ceased using coal as a feedstock for town gas production as early as 1967. Apart from city-gas, Towngas supplies renewable energy through solar photovoltaics, energy storage and other projects on the Chinese mainland. Our smart energy services in fields such as energy management, virtual power plants, as well as water and environment businesses, also help us transform ourselves and communities we serve towards a green and low-carbon future. Since lighting up the streets of Hong Kong in the 19th century, we always bear in mind our mission as a public utility to provide safe, reliable and clean energy. In the future, Towngas will continue to promote more green and low-carbon projects, including green methanol, hydrogen energy, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for sea, land, and air transport respectively, driving sustainable development. Watch this video to look back on our logo history, and review the path Towngas has taken to bring the blue flame to millions of households across Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. #Towngas #Brand #Refresh #GreenEnergy

[Promoting Innovation for Service Excellence: SQS Festival] At Towngas, we always strive to improve service for our customers. The annual Superior Quality Service (#SQS) Festival returned this September with a series of events to spark innovative ideas among staff and strengthen our core value of being customer-oriented. Into its 32nd year, our SQS programme has generated over 20,000 participations and 2,000 projects in Hong Kong from 1992. On the Chinese mainland, we have seen an astonishing 120,000 participations and 9,800 projects in just 23 years since we expanded the programme there. This Olympic year, the SQS Festival was launched with an Olympic-themed opening to hail sportsmanlike determination and persistence for excellence, as well as to recognise colleagues who had actively improved service efficiency with innovation. To further spark innovative thinking among our staff, we invited teams engaged in exciting initiatives—such as an IoT big-data intelligent control platform for water business use, a moss-cleaning robot for water collecting troughs, and a USB-charging installation for gas appliances—to share the backstories behind their inventions. Our General Manager – Residential Product and Quality, Ivan Lee, also shared his tips on finding inspirations from daily life as a product development engineer, and analysed innovative products, systems, and operating procedures for the audience. Furthermore, tours to Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), HKSAR Government, Hong Kong Sports Institute, HKPC - Hong Kong Productivity Council, and Hong Kong International Aviation Academy provided valuable insights into the latest applications of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. #Towngas #TowngasSmartEnergy #Service #Innovation

[Winning Industry Cares recognition for the 4th consecutive year] We are thrilled to announce that we have been honored with two prestigious awards at the Federation of Hong Kong Industries’ Industry Cares Recognition Scheme 2024. We received the “Best Social Impact Award” and the “Outstanding Caring Award” in the Enterprise Group, recognising our commitment to promoting green energy development in Hong Kong and our active contributions to society. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Towngas has been recognised by this scheme. We are committed to developing green energy solutions while actively addressing the HKSAR Government’s environmental policies. Our efforts include providing safe and efficient hydrogen supply solutions for Hong Kong. We have established Hong Kong’s first proof-of-concept (POC) modular hydrogen power generation system at a recreational facility in Sai Kung. We are also collaborating with Citybus to install a hydrogen extraction facility at its depot for hydrogen-powered buses. To nurture young talent, we launched the Towngas Green Flame Energy Scientist Programme, where our employees with professional engineering or ESG knowledge visit schools to share knowledge about future energy, climate change, technology and innovation, and gas safety, benefiting more than 3,000 students across 23 primary schools. In supporting the elderly, the Towngas Volunteer Service Team has organised events at elderly care homes which were transformed into nostalgic dim sum restaurants. In April, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Towngas Volunteer Service Team, we hosted a luncheon for 200 elderly individuals with swallowing difficulties and their carers, allowing everyone to enjoy both regular and soft meals together. We will continue to leverage our influence to create shared value and make a positive impact in our community. [Towngas’ Continuous Efforts in Supporting the Elderly Community] For many years, Towngas has been supporting the elderly through various initiatives. In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Senior Citizen Card Scheme, Towngas is participating in the special concession week held by the Social Welfare Department by offering a week-long discount for senior citizens. From 20 to 26 September, senior citizens aged 65 or above can enjoy a 10% discount on regular-priced gas appliances and household items at any TGC Towngas Customer Centre across Hong Kong. To receive the discount, simply present a valid Senior Citizen Card. Additionally, gas appliance purchases are eligible for a 10-month interest-free instalment plan. We will extend the same offer on 17 November 2024, in support of Senior Citizens Day 2024. Since 1995, our “Towngas Concession Scheme for the Elderly” has provided eligible senior citizens with a 50% discount on their first 500 megajoules of gas consumption each month, along with waived maintenance fees and parts costs. Under this scheme, the standard gas tariff paid by beneficiaries remains at the 2008 level, unchanged for 16 years. Furthermore, we have donated 10,000 sets of smart controllers and smart gas meters to families in need, leveraging technology to enhance home safety for the elderly. Together, we are making a difference and supporting our elderly community. #Towngas #SeniorCitizens #CommunitySupport #ElderlyCare
