The induction day took place across Hong Kong and Shanghai on the 2nd of July, where our interns began immersing themselves in Swire's diverse businesses, from exploring its rich history to touring Cathay City, the HAECO hangars, and Swire Properties' developments in Shanghai. Throughout the coming weeks, interns will also have the chance to build their professional networks and pitch their innovative ideas to our business leaders. To commemorate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, we recently organised an interactive workshop in collaboration with The Zubin Foundation, an NGO partner of 太古基金 Swire Trust. The workshop explored the difficulties faced by ethnic minority groups in society, as well as the misconceptions others may have about them. Through role play, representatives from The Zubin Foundation showed participating colleagues how it felt to be subject to unconscious bias. This month marked the conclusion of Swire’s first tech innovation competition, SwireX. Throughout the contest, the aim has been to uncover the most creative, innovative ideas that leverage emerging, cutting-edge tech to unlock new opportunities and foster business growth. The competition garnered 200 entries from teams across the Group, with 38 graduating to the pitching stage. At the awards ceremony, the top three finalists pitched for the top spot. Teach For Hong Kong, an NGO partner of Swire Trust, has launched the "Star Teacher" series in collaboration with leaders from diverse fields. This series aims to bring different sectors together to improve the quality of education and broaden the horizons of students from grassroots backgrounds. Mark Harper, Group Head of Sustainability at John Swire & Sons (H.K.), teamed up with Alisha from Teach for Hong Kong to co-teach a Science lesson for a Form 3 class at Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo No.2 College). Together, they introduced the process of petroleum refinement while highlighting ways we can contribute to sustainable development. Mark was impressed by the students’ thought-provoking questions and eagerness to learn about environmental issues. He shared, "Young people are key drivers of achieving sustainable commitments. Swire Pacific has released its 2023 Sustainability Report, which details the Group’s progress in delivering its SwireTHRIVE sustainable development strategy. In 2023, Swire Pacific piloted internal carbon pricing at three operating companies that account for 96% of operational emissions.
