🌍 On October 9th, we, North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA), had a fruitful online round table session focused on green financing! 💡 We introduced the MESTRI-CE Evaluation Toolbox, which includes technical, financial, and economic analysis tools. These tools will estimate the costs of renovation or construction to achieve more climate-neutral buildings 🏗️. They will also identify both energy and non-energy-related benefits of renovation investments, helping key decision makers take concrete action 🎯. Moreover, we discussed an innovative green financing methodology, aligned with EU taxonomy and existing voluntary green standards. This methodology will be supported by transparent documentation for investors, tracking environmental impact, performance, and proceeds to ensure maximum transparency 🌱📊. MESTRI-CE 🤝 liaises with the EU-level Local Alliance initiative 🌍 🌍 FEDARENE and seven additional leading networks of European cities and regions - ACR+, CEMR, Climate Alliance, Energy Cities, Eurocities, ICLEI Europe, and POLIS - have come together to form the Local Alliance. This EU-level initiative aims to find new ways to effectively roll out and finance the European Green Deal 💶 at the local level. REGEA has presented the main findings from MESTRI-CE's financing baselines and gap analysis 📊, including the building sector's key barriers 🚧 and opportunities 🌱 for innovative financing models. The Local Alliance initiative is currently focusing on mapping the Structural Funds 🗺️ and discussing what works ✅ – what does not work 🚫 – what possible future scenarios are, and what the Alliance can recommend to the European Commission 🏛️. 🌱 Case Study Analysis: Paving the Way for Green Financing in Central Europe 💶 As part of our project, we took a deep dive into innovative green financing schemes across the EU. This case study analysis identified replicable good practices from various countries, helping us pinpoint national gaps. The findings will be instrumental in building green financing models in Central European pilot countries, driving sustainability through trainings and expert missions. 🚀🌍 Each case study includes: 📋 General project overview 💰 Financial model, investment size, and results 🌍 Energy and climate impact data 🔍 Example: Croatia's Energy Renovation Fund Financial Model: Citizen-led initiative (donation-based crowdfunding)♻️ Developer: Green energy cooperative 🌳 Investment Size: €17.500 has been allocated to this initiative, providing significant capital for energy-efficient renovations, with 100% donation conditions. 💶 Impact: for approximatly 250 users of the measures, it means around 40.000 € financial savings per year. 🌍 Energy Transition in Central Europe: Challenges & Opportunities 🌱 The energy transition across Central Europe is facing significant hurdles due to uneven economic development and imbalances in technology and finance distribution. With buildings accounting for 43% of the final energy consumption in the EU, they have been identified as key drivers in the European Green Deal. 💡 Key Insights: - Energy efficiency investments need to more than double to meet the EU’s climate and energy targets by 2030. - Financing the shift to climate-neutral buildings remains a challenge, with the EU urging member states to involve private investors more significantly. To address these challenges, Regional Working Groups have been formed across pilot regions, consisting of key experts and stakeholders. These groups are focused on developing and testing the MESTRI-CE holistic system, which integrates Smart Data Hub technologies and methodologies to support sustainable building and green financing.
