🏓🤖 Match point Robot! ➡️Robots have exceled games like chess, but breaking into physical sports like table tennis presents a whole new set of challenges like rapid adaptation to unpredictable scenarios and coordinating speed. ➡️The robot developed by Google DeepMind uses a 6 DoF arm mounted on two linear gantries🦾, giving it the freedom to move across the table with precision. It’s equipped with real-time ball tracking and hierarchical control systems that choose the optimal low-level skills. ➡️It combines simulation-based reinforcement learning with imitation learning, allowing the robot to transfer its skills from the virtual to the real world without the need for extensive real-world trials🤖. It went up against 29 unseen human opponents across 4 different skill levels and scored in the middle of participants, implying that the system can operate like an intermediate amateur. Traditional tele-op systems often suffer from limited perception and require physical proximity. Open-TeleVision uses VR for a, stereoscopic view from the robot's perspective. How It Works🤔❓ 📷Active Stereo RGB Camera: Mounted on the robot to tracks and replicate the operator's head movements for a synchronized, stereoscopic view. ⚙️Data Transmission: Lifelike visual feedback loops are created by transmitting visual data to the operator's VR headset. 🦾Motion Capture and Replication: The operator's arm & hand movements are captured and translated into precise robotic actions. 🎓Learning Capabilities: The system records high-quality data of successful & unsuccessful attempts, useful for for imitation learning.
