"As someone trained in social work, I’m familiar with identifying the signs of sexual exploitation. However, today's training showed me a new perspective: each victim experiences exploitation uniquely. It’s important that we recognize and respect that everyone’s experience is different, and we must share that understanding with those we work with. We need a structured framework, like the one provided by IOM, to educate our teams effectively on this topic," Zsófia shared, helping her team of social workers adopt this knowledge. Thank you to Eszter, IOM Hungary's PSEAH Focal Point, for leading the recent Training of Trainers on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. This session empowers our partners to educate their staff on recognizing, preventing, and addressing sexual exploitation, an essential step in creating safer environments for the people they support.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) recently inaugurated its Labour Office at the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, followed by the first Foreign Stakeholders’ Summit in Budapest, led by the Foreign Stakeholders Relations and Engagement Bureau (FSREB). IOM Hungary is honored to support this initiative, which marks a significant step in facilitating safe and orderly migration for Filipino workers in Central Europe. "Due to remaining gaps in labour migration governance, the complexity of the labour migration process, and the unique risks faced by migrant workers at various stages, many businesses continue to encounter difficulties in meeting their commitments and obligations in demonstrating corporate respect for rights and remedying human rights abuses. IOM is well positioned to provide strategic advice and capacity-building to businesses," Daniel Bagameri, Head of Office at IOM Hungary noted during his address at the Summit. IOM Hungary looks forward to further collaboration with the Embassy and Filipino community in Hungary. 🇵🇭🇭🇺 #EthicalRecruitment #FilipinoWorkers #LabourMigration

🤔 Did you know there were 169 million migrant workers worldwide in 2019, making up nearly 5% of the global labour force? Labour migration is essential for filling labour gaps, driving innovation, and enriching cultural diversity. However, to reach its full potential, it must prioritize human and labour rights. Yesterday, Daniel Bagameri, the Head of Office at IOM Hungary, spoke at the annual recruiTECH Blue event, emphasizing the importance of ethical recruitment and the role of fair hiring practices in achieving safe, orderly labour migration that benefits both workers and employers. The 🗝️ takeaways were: - Labour migration plays a vital role in meeting labour market needs, but it must be conducted in a way that respects human and labour rights. - Governments have a primary duty to protect everyone within their territory from human rights abuses committed by businesses. - Businesses must respect the human and labour rights of all people affected by their operations, ensuring ethical recruitment practices. - When harm occurs, both governments and businesses share the responsibility to provide effective and quality remedies. - IOM serves as a strategic advisor, partnering with governments and businesses to implement ethical recruitment practices that benefit workers, employers, and the broader economy. 🔗 For more insights on #EthicalRecruitment, explore our resources: Migrant Worker Guidelines for Employers: https://lnkd.in/gQgkWhW3 Fair and Ethical Recruitment Due Diligence Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/dpryM2dm Labour Migration Process Mapping Guide: https://lnkd.in/gPaNSHC3 Operational Guidelines for Businesses on Remediation of Migrant-worker Grievances: https://lnkd.in/gfuav8Bq

Exciting news from Budapest! The first state-recognized Ukrainian-Hungarian bilingual school in Hungary has officially opened, with around 400 Ukrainian students now enrolled. 🇺🇦🇭🇺 Daniel Bagameri, the Head of Office at IOM Hungary represented the organization at this historic inauguration. This milestone was made possible through the hard work of the House of Ukrainian Traditions, dedicated school staff, and close political collaboration between Hungary and Ukraine. This new institution not only supports students' academic growth but also fosters better inclusion into Hungarian society. A great step forward for #Education and #SocialInclusion!

IOM Hungary concludes its exchange programme with the UK 🇬🇧✔ The project "Transnational Cooperation on the Identification, Assistance and Referral of Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings" has established robust professional network of British and Hungarian stakeholders, involving more than 70 professionals. Participants learnt about each other's daily work, shared their experiences and good practices during a study trip to London at the end of April and then during an online workshop on 17 June. Building on these, as well as the findings of a desk research two written outputs were released by the end of June: the stakeholder mapping embraces all organizations contributing to the protection of Hungarian victims, while the rapid landscape analysis presents the trends, organisational frameworks and challenges related to modern slavery and human trafficking in the two countries. Read the related materials at 👉 https://lnkd.in/dpZmvj6X 🤝The project was financed by the UK Modern Slavery Fund.
