Earthworm Foundation has been invited to share our work on 'Creating Positive Change in Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining' at the Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing Forum (Miami 13-15 October). This unique session is part of the LBMA/LPPM Global Precious Metals Conference, and we’re proud to present the outcomes of our recent stakeholder consultation with 27 organisations from the industry. We’ll examine the Guidelines for Responsible ASM Sourcing from Processing Plants and other tools that are helping to shape a more responsible and sustainable future for artisanal gold mining. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of Argor-Heraeus SA (Robin Kolvenbach), Metalor Technologies SA (Nicolas Carrera, Alexandre Fellay), and Px Précinox S.A. 🌎 Exciting News! 🌱 I’m thrilled to share Green Works, a new 3M docuseries that showcases the transformative power of green jobs through the stories of five individuals addressing climate challenges. The series highlights the critical and growing need for more talent to support the green transition and combat climate change. Featured in the film are Earthworm Foundation's, Dov Rosenmann, and SARTORI Roberto Scorsatto, who share insights into our work at Earthworm Foundation Brasil Centre for Social Excellence (CSE). Supported in part by 3M and 3Mgives, Brazil CSE brings together forestry, pulp, and paper companies, forest certification bodies, NGOs, and local communities to foster coexistence, launch impactful projects, and build industry capacity on social management best practices. This includes meaningful engagement with traditional and Indigenous communities to ensure respect for their rights, including their right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC). 🌍 The upcoming implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) represents a pivotal moment in our collective effort to combat deforestation. This regulation addresses the urgency of the #climatecrisis and provides businesses with a framework to rethink their practices and contribute to a more sustainable future. 🌱 #NewPartnership: We are happy to announce a new partnership between AAK and #Starling, a co-developed satellite monitoring solution between Airbus Defence and Space - Intelligence and Earthworm Foundation, which started this February. Focused on No-Deforestation Verification (#NDV), we are working with AAK on supporting their No-Deforestation commitments in Palm oil sourcing. 🌴 Many companies have pledged to establish zero-deforestation #supplychains in recent years to mitigate their impact on forest ecosystems. These commitments are significant in addressing tropical deforestation and positively impact the protection of high-conservation forest and high-carbon stock (#HCS) areas. ✨ However, it's crucial to clarify what these commitments entail. 'What exactly are these companies committing to? How is deforestation defined? How is progress measured and monitored?'. Addressing these queries is essential for effectively implementing zero-deforestation commitments and ensuring that raw material production doesn't harm global forests. 💬 ’AAK has been working with several stakeholders to reach our commitment of no deforestation by 2025 in the palm supply chain. We're thrilled to announce that Earthworm Foundation has partnered with Apical, a leading vegetable oil processor and Indonesia’s largest exporter of palm oil and the East Kutai District Government to work together in Apical's Sustainable Living Village (SLV) program in East Kutai, Kalimantan in Indonesia. This initiative aims to bring lasting environmental and social change by supporting over 16,200 community members in sustainable agriculture, forest #conservation, #cacao cultivation, and economic resilience. 🌱 Through this collaboration, we aim to equip smallholders with the tools to adopt sustainable practices, diversify their livelihoods, and restore vital ecosystems.
