Tentang kami

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Indonesia since 1975. The country office is in the capital Jakarta. Indonesia has been classed as a middle-income country since 2007. The country is a member of G20 – the Group of Twenty of the world’s major industrial and emerging economies – and plays a significant role in the region. Jakarta hosts the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Indonesia is therefore one of the global development partners of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). These are emerging economies that play a crucial role in achieving international development goals. GIZ is working in Indonesia on behalf of BMZ. Other parties that commission GIZ to carry out projects include the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the German Federal Foreign Office and the European Union. German-Indonesian cooperation focuses on three priority areas: - Energy - Environmental protection - Technical and vocational education and training (TVET)/economic development It also covers the cross-cutting issues of good governance and cooperation with the private sector. Indonesia plays a key role in the context of BMU’s international cooperation because of its importance for climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation. GIZ’s office in Jakarta is also responsible for regional projects implemented in conjunction with the ASEAN Secretariat. The regional cooperation between Germany and ASEAN that GIZ supports concentrates in the areas of Environment & Climate Change, Regional Economic Integration and Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Development.

The ASEAN-German cooperation project #3RproMar held its closing event and final workshop for one of the pilot projects. The project focused on a Digital Return System (DRS) designed to promote sustainable plastic recycling. The Circular Consortium, a collaboration between KIBUMI and Parongpong Recycle And Waste Lab, led the DRS initiative.    Highlights from the Workshop: 📊Insightful presentations on key outcomes of the DRS project, including performance data of collected plastic packaging waste, results from established partnerships with the brand owners of skincare products (Botanina, Rumah Atsiri and Yagi Forest), target achievements of EPR practices, and the impact on the plastic recycling chain.    💬 An interactive discussion session addressing the findings encountered by the circular consortium and stakeholders, particularly the brand owners of skincare products (Botanina and Yagi Forest) and Parongpong Raw Lab, throughout the DRS implementation.    💡An open discussion with key government agencies (Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan, Bandung City’s Environmental Agency and West Bandung’s Environmental Agency), focused on developing actionable recommendations to enhance and sustain the DRS, especially how the government can further adopt and implement a similar approach for reducing plastic waste in the region.   We hope this pilot project, utilising the DRS, will be adopted in various regions across Indonesia to support long-term sustainability and promote widespread plastic recycling practices. Its implementation would significantly contribute to achieving the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s Regulation 75/2019 on the Waste Reduction Roadmap by Producers, which targets a 30% reduction in waste at the source.    A heartfelt thank you for the contributions from all parties involved in the success of this pilot project. Together, we are paving the way for more sustainable recycling practices! ♻     Photo credit: Mitha/Parongpong RAW Lab #DigitalReturnSystem #CircularEconomy #GIZ #GIZWorks #ASEAN #Germany

🟢 On Monday, 14 October, during Global Green Growth Week 2024, GIZ ASEAN 3RproMar and AMUSE projects, represented by Phong Giang, contributed to a session on "Regional Actions in Managing Waste." The session focused on how ASEAN can address regional waste management challenges and develop value chains for recycling and reuse. As we discussed, waste mismanagement has wide-reaching implications across borders, and addressing these challenges requires coordinated regional action. 🟢 Key Highlights from the Session: 🔵 Regional Market for Recycled Materials: Establishing a regional market for secondary raw materials is key to advancing the circular economy. Harmonised policies that promote recycled content and eco-friendly packaging are essential for creating demand and scaling up recycling. A unified approach to trade regulations will strengthen cooperation between ASEAN countries, making the circular economy more efficient. 🔵 Investment in Shared Infrastructure: ASEAN can benefit from joint recycling hubs and waste treatment facilities to address capacity gaps, especially for plastics and e-waste. Aligning with international standards like the Basel Convention, these hubs will make waste management more efficient and foster regional collaboration, reducing the need to import waste for processing. 🔵 ASEAN Regional Action Plan on Marine Debris: The current plan, ending in 2025, has fostered action and cooperation. Extending it beyond 2025 with more concrete targets, aligned with the International Legally Binding Instrument, will advance ASEAN's efforts toward a circular and green region. 🙌 With support from the German Government, GIZ, through the AMUSE and 3RproMar projects, remains committed to capacity-building and dialogue. We are preparing a joint successor project to continue our collaboration with ASEAN beyond 2025, further strengthening regional cooperation for sustainable waste management solutions. #ASEAN #Germany #wastemanagement

Together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) has launched the fifth call for funding for the IKI Medium Grants. A maximum of 12 projects worth up to 8 million euros in public funding will be selected. A grant of between 300,000 and a maximum of 800,000 euros may be granted per project. Thematic priorities: The climate and biodiversity crisis has a significant impact on people's lives, working, and educational realities, affecting them in different ways. The opportunities to participate in decision-making processes therefore vary. This year´s funding call takes up these issues in order to realise untapped potential for climate and biodiversity conservation in a socially just way. With the thematic priority “Promotion of ambitious participatory measures for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions“ the IKI supports ambitious participatory climate action measures that contribute to the achievement of greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets through needs-based capacity development and/or the piloting of innovative concepts in the mobility, urban development, and energy sectors or across sectors. Project should ensure a greater impact on all population groups through the targeted participation of previously underrepresented groups. The second thematic priority provides support for “Integrative measures for the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity in cities”. The funded projects serve the inclusive and integrative design and implementation of conservation measures that benefit all people and the natural environment through the development and use of biodiversity-friendly solutions. They contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity, while also enhancing the integrity and functionality of the ecosystems affected. Timeline: The selection procedure started on 15 October 2024 and the deadline for submission of outlines is 14 January 2025. The IKI Office of the Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH implements the IKI Medium Grants as an entrusted project management agency.
