We are proud to announce that our Care Quality Director, Giorgia Testoni, recently had some of her research on glycogenin published - advancing our understanding of a vital aspect within health science. Glycogen is a crucial energy reserve for our bodies, and understanding how it is made and stored is vital for treating diseases like diabetes. Scientists previously thought glycogenin was required to build larger glycogen structures (called alpha particles) that help regulate blood sugar levels. However, this study shows that even without glycogenin, the liver can still produce and manage glycogen. This discovery opens the door to new research on how glycogen is formed and regulated, which could lead to better treatments for metabolic disorders.
