🌍🎉 Happy United Nations Day! As we celebrate the UN’s global efforts for peace, sustainability, and human rights, let’s also reflect on how Inner Development Goals (IDGs) can help us grow as individuals to better tackle the world’s challenges. Achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires not only external action but also inner transformation. Here’s how the UN’s work connects with the 5 key IDG skills: Being (Self-awareness) 🌱: Just as the UN promotes global peace, we can cultivate self-awareness and mindfulness to stay calm and grounded in our own lives. Thinking (Cognitive skills) 🧠: The UN addresses complex global issues, and we, too, need critical thinking and creativity to navigate challenges in our work and communities. Relating (Empathy) 💙: The UN’s work to feed over 100 million people through the World Food Programme is a reminder of the importance of compassion and caring for others. Collaborating (Social skills) 🤝: UN peacekeeping relies on cooperation and communication, just as we must build collaboration and trust in our teams to drive positive change. Acting (Driving change) 🌍: The Paris Agreement, with 197 countries working together on climate change, shows the need for courage and responsibility to take meaningful action, both globally and personally. Talk to us if you’d like to know more about using the Inner Development Goals with your Green Team or Leadership Team. This #UnitedNationsDay, let’s remember that building a better world starts with inner growth as much as outer action. Together, we can transform ourselves—and the planet! 💙🌍 #InnerDevelopmentGoals #IDGs #UNDay #SustainableDevelopment #Leadership #Empathy #Collaboration #Resilience

🚨 WARNING: Don’t listen to the Green Sense Podcast! 🌿🎙️ Seriously, here’s why you should stay far, far away: You’ll start caring about the planet 🌍 — Next thing you know, you’ll be recycling, turning off lights, and actually knowing what “carbon footprint” means. It’s way too inspiring 💡 — Be prepared to question your life choices... and maybe even switch to a green energy provider. 😱 You might laugh 😂 — Sustainability with a side of humour? Yes, we somehow made eco-friendly living fun. You’ve been warned. Your colleagues will notice 👀 — Suddenly you’ll be the office eco-warrior, and everyone will ask you where the compost bin is. You’ll be too informed 📚 — Once you know how much you can do, there’s no going back! Proceed with caution! 🎧💚 #GreenSensePodcast #EcoWarrior #Sustainabilitypodcast

View profile for Sarah Blake, graphic

    Director I Sustainability | Carbon Literacy | B Corps I Climate Education

Too many takeaways from the inaugural Techies Go Green live with special guest Paul Hawken. So if you don’t have time then don’t read on! Michael O'Hara's opening speech reinforced the idea that in order to change, we need to change culture. 🌟 Donal Quinn from Enso Impact on my panel: - What gets measured gets managed. 🌟 @Dr Shane McGuiness: Peatlands Cover 3% of land, represent 30% of carbon sequestration, double that of all forests 🌟 Ciarán Hughes CFP® of Ethico: Changing your pension is more effective than going veggie or changing energy supplier 🌟 Raquel Noboa - Founder and CEO Fifty Shades Greener Climate + Education = Change. 🌟 Andrew Miller formerly MD of Folens. Sustainability is a journey, you can’t do it all at once. You need to bring people with you. 🌟 John Gladstone Do what you can with what you have. Sell to others in the business through opportunity, rather than have to! 🌟 Justin Jacober, MBA Urban Volt: Solar/heat pumps can save you money, no upfront costs taken on by Urban Volt, a no brainer! 🌟 Philip Connolly, KPMG: Ireland will have to pay 8.2 billion in fines as we won’t meet our targets for 2030 and beyond. * 5 out of 10 concerns for CEOs for the future are climate related. 🌟 Giles Crown from Taylor Wessing says watch out for using images in green claims to avoid fines! 🌟 Paul McSweeney talked about Eir already taking back tech and refurbishing it 🌟 Dr Ciarán O'Carroll TU Dublin, gamified the new sustainability regulations coming in and kept us all awake! 🌟 Paul Hawken talked about the disconnect between us, each other and the planet. * He asked us to think who does this affect if I do this? * And finally, when looking at your operations and what you’re doing, look at What’s the first cause? Where does it all start? A great question was asked, if you could change one thing in the next 10 years? The answer: The education system, change what people learn. We need to move as a community if we’re going to have a chance of humanity surviving. Great to catch up with friends old and new. Maureen Hennessy FCMA Gerard Clutterbuck Leyla F Karaha Shane McDonnell Conor Daly (MSc.) Francis O'Haire Jenny Latimer

🌍🍽️ Happy #WorldFoodDay! While 828 million people still go to bed hungry, we can all take steps — big and small — to work towards #ZeroHunger, one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Here’s how Green Teams at work can make a difference: Host a zero-waste lunch 🥗 — Encourage staff to bring meals in reusable containers and minimise food waste Support local food banks 🛒 — Organise workplace collections or donations to tackle food insecurity in your community Reduce food waste in the office ♻️ — Set up a composting system for food scraps and leftovers Choose sustainable catering 🌱 — Opt for plant-based and locally sourced options for meetings and events Raise awareness 📢 — Use internal channels to share facts and ideas about responsible consumption Create a share shelf - If you’re not going to eat what you bought then leave it for someone else to enjoy

🌍📱 It's International E-Waste Day! Time to talk about where your old tech really goes... Spoiler: it's not pretty. Here's why we all need to take e-waste seriously: 57.4 million tonnes of e-waste were generated globally in 2021 alone! That's heavier than the Great Wall of China! 🧱 Only 17.4% of e-waste is properly recycled. The rest? Ends up in landfills or polluting our oceans. 🌊 Your old smartphone has 100x more gold per ton than a gold mine! So yeah, recycling your tech is pretty much treasure hunting! 🤑 E-waste contains toxic materials like lead and mercury that can leach into soil and water, harming wildlife and humans alike. ⚠️ We all have a part to play — just 1 recycled laptop saves the same energy it takes to power 3,500 homes for an hour! 🔌🏡 Have a bring your e-waste to work day and recycle some of that old tech languishing at home This #InternationalEWasteDay, let’s make sure our gadgets have a green ending! ♻️📲 #RecycleYourTech #Ewaste #SustainableTech #greenteams WEEE Forum

Eating seasonally is one of the best ways to lower the carbon footprint of your food. Autumn's still great for fruit and veg, it’s harvest festival and Halloween. There’s apples, pears, nuts, mushrooms and of course, pumpkins! If you’re buying pumpkins for carving, make sure you use the whole fruit for soup or roasting. Fruit in Season Apples Blackberries (finishing) Cranberries (coming into season) Grapes (if you’re lucky to find them) Figs Melon (very end of season) Pears Tomatoes (Nearly over) Vegetables in season in October Artichokes (globe) Beetroot Broccoli (nearly over) Butternut squash Carrots (finishing) Celery Celeriac Courgettes (very end of season) Kale Leeks Wild Mushrooms (just starting to see them) Parsnips Peppers (Might still find some non glasshouse ones) Potatoes (Roosters etc.) Pumpkin Turnips (winter crop coming out now) #seasonalveg #seasonaleating #localproduce #locallysourced #seasonalfruit
