Have you seen Ring-neck Parakeets in the wild in Ireland? One of our #TeamScottCawley employees recorded 3 ring-necked parakeets in Ireland last week. They are an invasive species in Ireland native to tropical Africa and the Indian Subcontinent - BirdWatch Ireland is calling for members of the public to log any sightings with the National Biodiversity Data Centre. The Ring-necked Parakeet, aka Rose-ringed Parakeet, has all-green plumage, a long tail and a red beak, and adult males have a rose-colored ring around the neck area. #RingNeckParakeet #InvasiveSpecies Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e6J7Ajkj Report sightings here: https://lnkd.in/ec39rMNi

Our CEO Aebhín Cawley joined the Business For Biodiversity Ireland #ActionTrack members' workshop alongside fellow businesses to learn about assessing our organisation's impacts and dependencies on nature. This helps us to better understand both our business operations and interactions along our extended value chain as we progress our organisation's #NatureStrategy
This week, BFBI launched the first of our three #ActionTrack workshops scheduled for 2025, with the support of Deloitte in their Dublin offices. Our workshop focused on the key elements of what a #DoubleMaterialityAssessment (#DMA) is (and isn’t), and why it makes perfect business sense for every organisation to conduct one. Read a recap from BFBI's Business Programme Lead Dr Catherine Farrell of Trinity Business School: https://lnkd.in/ecsiAHYW Looking forward to our next Action Track workshops which will build on this, working through tools like the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) #LEAP (Locate, Evaluate, Assess and Prepare). Info on these will be issued shortly to member businesses who have signed on to the Action Track on our site. A big thank you to our supporters and speakers from Deloitte, Arianna Bunello & Sofia Langs, with support from Aoife Connaughton and Caitlin Flanagan, also to BFBI Head of Operations Iseult Sheehy and Head of Research Dr Emer Ní Dhúill, to Sarah Kelly, of the National Biodiversity Data Centre and Eadaoin Boyle Tobin, Business in the Community Ireland. Thanks again to our Action Track businesses for their essential feedback - we collected several sheets of useful insights! - Emily Riondato, Kate Farrell and Caoimhe Donnelly, of CIÉ - Córas Iompair Éireann; Ken Lyons, CIE Tours; Áine Kirrane, Dublin Airport Authority, Liam O’Neill (and Sean online) of Cloud Assist Group; Aoife McGovern, Future Energy Ireland; Ailish Duggan, Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail; Bob Hamilton, Irish Trees Limited; David Finane, KMK; Aebhín Cawley, Scott Cawley Ltd; Arek Gdulinski, The Shannon Airport Group and David Lawlor, Watermark Coffee | B Corp.

This St. Patrick’s Day 🇮🇪, we want to honour the Curlew (Crotach), one of the ground-nesting bird that our project aims to support and increase in population. The Curlew has profoundly influenced Irish arts and culture, inspiring poetry, music, and visual arts. In Irish folklore, the Curlew is credited with guiding St. Patrick to Ireland: "St. Patrick's boat gets lost in the fog, and it is the Curlew's haunting call that guides him safely to Ireland." Although specific details of this tale are not widely documented, it highlights the Curlew's symbolic role in Irish culture. The Curlew has inspired works by Douglas Hyde, Lady Gregory, and WB Yeats. Its cry continues to inspire poets today. Sadly, the Curlew's cry is becoming less frequent, and we are passionate about remedying this. This St. Patrick’s Day, let's celebrate our heritage by honoring our lands, and the wildlife that depend on them. Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Breeding Waders EIP team! **Curlew call sound credited to Paul Kenny of xeno-canto.or #curlew #stpatricksday #heritage #conservation Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Dublin Zoo Fota Wildlife Park

We have been marking #SeachtainNaGaeilge across the company over the past two weeks with our staff converting their email-sign offs to the Irish-language version. We also held a pop-up Gaeltacht in advance of #StPatricksDay celebrations. This involved a hotly contested ecology-themed Tráth na gCeist with a lot of new ecological terms picked up by our Irish and international staff alike, and we enjoyed some delicious refreshments as #TeamScottCawley came together to practice their #cúplafocail and learn some new phrases as Gaeilge. #SnaG25 #PaddysDay2025 #Quiz #IrishLanguage #Gaeilge #HappyStPatricksDay

Wildife names in Irish for #SeachtainNaGaeilge - another favourite is the Turnstone known as the 'Piardálaí trá' - the 'beach rummager' - for its constant activity picking out sand hoppers and other invertabrates from the seaweed along our rocky shores. #SnaG25 #IrishBirds This orange-legged wader, a winter visitor from northeast Canada and northern Greenland, was snapped by #TeamScottCawley ecologists on one of our #BirdSurveys 🔭

Happy Seachtain na Gaeilge - another interesting Irish name for a small creature is ‘An Gráinneog’ - the word for #hedgehog means, rather unfairly, 'little ugly one' 🦔 Many people are surprised to hear that #hedgehogs are not actually native to Ireland, but are believed to have been introduced in the 12th century from Britain or the Continent, possibly by the Normans as a food stuff. The hedgehog is protected under the Wildlife Acts 1976 and 2000, however it is considered a common, non-native species, and so is not considered a priority for conservation in Ireland. Although declining in Europe, the #IrishHedgehogSurvey is working to study numbers here. Record your sightings: https://lnkd.in/ed8j9pDf #IrishWildlife #ecology #SeachtainnaGaeilge #SnG25
