Fran McGinnity and I were excited  and honoured to present our research in Stormont today at an informal meeting of the NI Assembly Committee for the Economy and the Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection. We spoke about our Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) study on gender and labour market inclusion on the island of Ireland supported by the Shared Island Unit Department of the Taoiseach.

We are currently recruiting for the following position: Research Assistant - Climate, Energy and Economy Programme The successful candidate will be involved as a key team member in this research area, with activities including; reviewing existing CGE literature, gathering, cleaning and analysing data, visualising results in graphs and figures using R, writing up the analysis for policy reports and research papers to be published in leading international peer-reviewed energy economic journals and presenting research at seminars and conferences. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in economics or a related discipline with strong skills in quantitative and qualitative methodology including proven ability to use up-to-date statistical techniques, excellent data presentation skills in R and excellent writing skills. We are currently recruiting for the following position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in CGE Modelling The ESRI has maintained an energy research programme since the 1990s, covering energy demand, electricity markets, and energy efficiency. In 2017, the ESRI initiated a new, parallel research programme on Climate, Energy and the Economy to enhance the modelling capability of assessing the relationship between economic trends, policies, energy demand, and associated greenhouse gas emissions. To date, this has involved constructing an energy Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model of the Irish economy, namely the Ireland Environment, Energy and Economy (I3E) model (https://lnkd.in/eqFt6qHt). The successful candidate will work primarily on core modelling; developing and maintaining the I3E model. Depending on the candidates’ expertise in satellite models, it is expected that they will develop the required satellite model(s) and their linkage with the I3E model. They will be expected to write reports and journal articles and present the research outputs in various fora including stakeholder meetings; seminars and conferences. Candidates should have a PhD in economics and research experience in intertemporal CGE modelling (model development and calibration) with GAMS (General Algebraic Modelling System), preferably covering energy/climate topics or experience in satellite models, e.g., agriculture, energy. "Young teenagers are more likely to have a disability now than a decade ago, new research examining the prevalence of disability in young people suggests. Young people with a disability have fewer friends, feel less positive about school and are less involved in activities like sport, the study also found. "Children aged 13 are now more likely to have a disability than a decade ago, new research reveals. Children were part of the analysis in the years 2011 and 2012 as well as 2021 and 2022 and it was found there has been a greater increase in the prevalence of disabilities seen in girls than boys, driven by them having emotional difficulties, according to the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) study. The findings highlight the importance of a joined-up approach in promoting the full inclusion of young people with a disability. At present, young people with a disability have fewer friends, are less positive about school and are less involved in activities like sport, so promoting a more inclusive climate in school and out-of-school provision is crucial.

Today, we launched the report 'Trends In disability prevalence among young people: Insights from the Growing Up in Ireland study' by Emer Smyth and Helen Russell.
