What better way to spend a Friday than scouting for pollinators on #KepakFarm ?! 🐝🦋🪰 We’re excited to have started research with Sarah Larragy in conjunction with School of Natural Sciences Trinity College and RestPoll: Restoring Pollinator habitats across European agricultural landscapes 🚜🔬 Today, we conducted the first of many pollinator and vegetation surveys to be taken on the farm, and made some delightful discoveries! 4 species of fly, 3 species of butterfly and even a New Queen Bumblebee (despite some showers of rain and blustery winds!) Farmers are known for being custodians of the land, and that more recently includes acting as conservationists who nurture biodiversity and support ecosystems, by implementing sustainable practices that protect and enhance the natural environment. We’re enthusiastic to see how this research may benefit the industry.🌱

🌍 We're proud to announce that Kepak is a signatory of Ireland's Food Waste Charter! This national initiative, led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland, aims to accelerate action towards Ireland’s food waste reduction target under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. Food waste is a global issue with serious environmental, societal, and economic impacts. One-quarter of food produced worldwide is lost or wasted, contributing to 8–10% of greenhouse gas emissions due to the energy, water, and land used in production and transportation. At Kepak, we are dedicated to driving change for a more sustainable future. Together we can make a difference! #FoodWasteCharter #Sustainability #UNSDG123 #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy

Today our #Twenty20 Beef Club team attended the hugely successful Tirlán “Farming for the Future” Open Day in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. The big crowd of over 200 farmers showed the commitment and interest they have in helping to resolve such an important issue - water quality💧 Some key messages for us were: 🔑 Water quality is not just a dairy issue, but an economy wide one - with 1 in 10 hectares farmed currently under derogation, across the industry. Everyone in industry is up for the fight to maintain it. 💪 🔑 Farmers can influence the Irish Nitrates Derogation review. By acting before the cut off in Sept 2025 (before a decision is made in Jan 2026) BUT they need the right support. From government, farming organisations and everyone else, as it is crucial that we show the EU signs of improvement. 🇪🇺 🔑 There is good progress in current Science & Research. Farmers are committed to changing things on the ground. But it must be collective. No one person can do it all. Multiple small acts = big impact. 🌱 Many actions were identified, from the #TeagascSignpostProgramme & #BetterFarmingforWater, to the #ASSAP Advisory service. With the help of the new 60M EIP funding by LawPro, actions previously identified by ASSAP advisors can now be put to action, amongst others. They’re goal is to help 15,000 farmers. Thank you to Donal Kavanagh for hosting such an impactful day and Well done to all the stand and panel speakers, as well as the many representatives who helped to facilitate information on the topic. 👏 Teagasc Local Authority Waters Programme Irish Farmers Association Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association - ICMSA Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland @farmgen Mick O'Dowd Eilis Greene
