Her project, "Writing to Freedom," produced through the Journalism, Podcasting and Radio course with Kerry College and Radio Kerry, focuses on the inspiring Listowel Writers' Week Prison Writing Competition. The feature highlights powerful interviews with former prisoners, prison arts officers, and Writers' Week organisers, showcasing the impact of storytelling on mental health. 🎉 Celebrating the Success of Transition Year Students Kerry College Experience 🎉 This week, we proudly celebrated the achievements of over 250 Transition Year (TY) students from across Kerry, who successfully completed industry-recognised Level 4 minor certifications. These certifications, awarded through partnerships with ITEC and QQI, reflect the hard work and dedication of TY students during the 2023/2024 academic year. The awards ceremony, held in three of our schools, showcased the growing collaboration between Kerry College and local schools, including Coláiste Gleann Lí, Castleisland Community College, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, Causeway Comprehensive School, and Presentation Secondary School, Listowel. Students were recognised for their accomplishments in diverse areas such as health-related fitness, career planning, and beauty, equipping them with practical skills for their personal growth and future careers. Kerry ETB’s TY programmes continue to integrate further education and training modules, giving students a head-start in exploring career paths while gaining valuable qualifications. 📢 Survey: Nearly 40% of Kerry Teens Seek More Youth-Friendly Spaces 📢 A recent survey conducted by the Kerry Children's and Young Persons Committee (CYPSC) in collaboration with Kerry ETB revealed that nearly 40% (36.5%) of teenagers in Kerry are calling for more youth-friendly spaces where they can socialise safely. Our Youth Development Officer, Seamus Whitty, shares that work is already underway to address these issues and ensure young people in Kerry have better opportunities to connect and engage in safe spaces.
