What a great end to the week! Back in her university stomping grounds this morning, Angela Quinlan was reliving her Trinity College Dublin student life, except today, her role was reversed. Swapping out note taking for note giving, Angela was invited in to guest lecture the Trinity College Dublin School of Law LLM students to talk about all things patents. Giving an overview in the basic principles of patents and the monetisation process, the students were also given real life examples of how patents are beneficial to society as a whole. As well as reviewing the broad makeup of the patents in the various portfolios under Key Patent Innovations Limited, the lecture also considered the operations and make up of a licensing company, and a deep dive in the management of patent portfolios. Many law students may not be familiar with what patent attorney's do or how a legal professional can contribute to a patent licensing company. If you'd like to find out more about 'Life at a licensing company'... be sure to get in touch. #patents #IP #intellectualproperty #innovators #legal #IPstrategy

📣 𝗜𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁! 📣 To mark World Mental Health Day last Thursday, our founder Anna Molony chaired a discussion about supporting well-being in the IP profession - a webinar jointly hosted by IP Inclusive, The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and Jonathan's Voice. We are pleased to share the recording of the webinar with you today and would like to extend our thanks to all those who attended and to the panelists who all gave up their time and contributed to an interesting and enlightening discussion. Thank you to Angela Quinlan, Michael Carter, Heather McCann and Penelope Aspinall. The panel members each shared practices they had seen implemented and which had a positive impact on employees. The focus of discussion was centred around how organisations can be structured to facilitate better flexibility for employees. Some key tips from the discussion included: ➡ Genuine offers of flexible working hours and the implementation of reasonable deadlines ➡ No unscheduled calls to respect employees downtime and adherence to the set time allocated for a call. Schedule a follow-up call if additional time is required, rather than running over ➡ Focus on work-life-harmony rather than work-life-balance ➡ Facilitate opportunities to talk for those working remotely ➡ Think about the person behind the colleague ➡ Senior management to lead by example and let the team know it's ok to be away from the desk during core office hours ➡ Add a disclaimer to emails sent late at night that a response during the recipient's core working hours is perfectly acceptable You can access the webinar recording here: CIPA members: https://lnkd.in/eiFD7dsg CITMA members: https://lnkd.in/e7tp_TgW There is also still time to participate in our survey of IP professionals by sharing your experience of well-being support in the IP profession. All responses will be anonymous. Click here: https://lnkd.in/earSdhiY

Angela Quinlan was proud be the Irish representative on the European Patent Institute’s IP Commercialization Committee. Made up of 10 members, this committee is tasked with considering and dealing with all questions pertaining to, or connected with, IP commercialization in Europe. Following their in-person meeting in Barcelona yesterday, a series of educational webinars for fellow European Institute patent attorneys will soon follow over the coming months. As part of this IP commercialization series, the committee will cover a range of IP topics to help European patent attorneys better understand IP valuation and monetization and enable them to suitably advise clients in these areas of growing importance. Thanks to all the committee members for their active engagement so far, it’s a privilege to contribute to this group and to work with like-minded IP professionals. Well done to Angela Quinlan for her contribution at the IP Inclusive, The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and the The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys webinar marking World Mental Health Day and to discuss wellbeing in the IP Profession. Chaired by Anna Molony, Angela was joined by fellow panelists Heather McCann (EIP), Michael Carter (Gowling WLG) and Penelope Aspinall representing Jonathan's Voice. The focus of this session was very much centred around how our working organisations are structured to facilitate better flexibility for our employees. Some key tips for companies to promote this included: - Genuine offers of flexible working hours and the implementation of reasonable deadlines - No unscheduled calls to respect employees downtime and adherence to the set time allocated for a call. Schedule a followup if the call needs to additional time rather than running over. - Focus on work-life-harmony rather than work-life-balance - Facilitate opportunities to talk for those working remotely - Think about the person behind the colleague - Snr. Management to lead by example and let the team know it's ok to be away from the desk during core office hours - Add a disclaimer to emails sent late at night that a response during the recipients core working hours is perfectly ok - Implement a 3 tier approach. Consider this triangular shape 🔺 and imagine it is split it into 3 layers. Tier 1 is at the bottom, Tier 3 the top. Tier 1 denotes 'Preventative' measures (plan/rebalance workload). Tier 2: Proactive measures (anticipate crunch/stress times). Lastly tier 3: Reactive measures (manage/deal with the situation). Spending more time focusing on tiers 1 and 2, will help reduce time spent firefighting periods of stress on tier 3. It was acknowledged that many of us have lived through very stressful work situations, and that constant changes, constant urgent deadlines, constant calls can all lead to that perpetually knotted stomach, and ultimately often results in anxiety. When working at that heightened level over a longer period, stress can manifest itself either physically or mentally, and often it can be others who notice it first. Takeaways: Appreciation and respect go a long way. During a recent survey, Penelope (Jonathan's Voice) noted 98% of employees said that it's what they want to get, while only 38% said it's what they got. Let's aim to close that 60% differential for a start. It is important to recognise that we're all living our own lives and experiencing it in our own unique ways. Be kind to yourself and remember that being 80% is more than good enough. #WLB #WLH #Wellbeing #IP #Patents #MentalHealth #WorldMentalHealthDay #Work #RemoteWorking #HybridWorking

Next up, a fireside chat about collaborating with China's burgeoning industry. In this Tencent's Marc Huang notes that the Chinese character for crisis 危机 is made of who parts symbolising danger and opportunity. Marc poses the question of whether the "crisis" over reliance on chinese products (e.g., battery, connectivity, and software) also contains an opportunity for European companies. #IAMlive #IP #Patents

Anthony Kavanagh is flying the Key Patent Innovations Limited flag live from Munich this week. Attending the 6th edition of IAM Live: Auto IP Europe 2024, he has shared some interesting observations from the first panel of the #IAMlive discussion on "The vehicle of the future - how the high-tech revolution is reshaping the IP strategies" * The size of the automotive software marketplace is set to double by 2030. * Advanced automotive companies are openly extremely reliant on connectivity networks like 5G. * Some operating companies are happy to note that their licensing deals support and reassure them in rolling out in their new products. #IAMLive #AutonomousVehicle #AutomotiveTechnology #FutureOfTransportation #AutomotiveIndustry #IP #Patents

As the nation of #Ireland prepares to receive and digest the latest annual governmental #budget, Angela Quinlan talks about her own monetary matters in The Irish Times 'Me & My Money' column. From the significance of losing a five euro note, to her most extravagant purchase ever, it's a light and refreshingly honest two minute read. And the most burning question of all... have the piggy bank "borrowings" been replaced?! #piggybankbandit #money #budget2025

What a great start to the week. Today we had the privilege of attending the Women Mean Business (WMB) Awards 2024 where Angela Quinlan was shortlisted as a finalist in the Female Entrepreneur category. Listening to the thoughts and experiences from so many great women, it was an inspiring and motivational Monday. With a positive tone framed by opening remarks from Rosemary Delaney and Emer Higgins, the spirit of 'Be The Change' was echoed eloquently by each of the speakers and panelists, Miriam Hussey, Nuala Walsh, Ingrid De Doncker, as well as moderator, Helen Shaw. Congratulations to all the finalists & winners today - Helene Hugel, Ita Richardson, Rebecca Keenan, Lauren McKenna and Rose Kidd. A special shout out to Karen Butler, Ciara Lyons, Marie Walsh and Edel Mc Devitt who were able to join us today also. A few noted nuggets to reflect on and digest: - Make decisions that bring you closer to ease, not dis-ease. - Done is better than perfect. - Comparison is the thief of joy. - Ask questions, and question answers. - Mirror your world, and be the change. #BeTheChange #Entrepreneurs #Leaders #IrishBusiness #IP

Angela Quinlan wears many hats, from being a mother of two young girls, to operating as an MD at Key Patent Innovations Limited. On occasion, she also sits in many different chairs. A few weeks back she swapped out her work-from-home office chair for a seat in Business Plus Magazine's Executive Chair. See below to learn how she answered the questions they asked. #Business #IP #Executive #ExecutiveChair #MD #IrelandBusiness
