A new €2m fund Cyber Security Improvement Grant for SMEs has been announced by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. The €2 million fund is aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Ireland as they enhance their cybersecurity. The grant provides support to companies to implement priority recommendations from the Enterprise Ireland Cyber Security Review Grant and improve the resilience of Irish businesses against cyber threats. This new initiative, co-funded by the European Union's DIGITALEUROPE Programme, offers companies the financial support they need to strengthen their IT systems, improve operational security, and ensure their long-term protection from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. Eligible SMEs can apply for funding of 80% of project costs, with a maximum grant of €60,000, to implement key cybersecurity measures, re-test their systems, and receive expert guidance for future improvements. The grant is available to SMEs that have already undertaken the Enterprise Ireland Cyber Security Review and are seeking to implement the recommended improvements. Applications are open until 8 December 2024, with high demand expected. Students from #MoyneCommunitySchool in Longford undertook a site visit to eir Ireland for #EIRDay under the STEM Passport for Inclusion programme, exploring career paths in engineering, cyber security, finance and software development. #MidlandsICT #midlandsadvantage #STEM #stempassport #eir #futureskills #longford #STEMengagement #education MidlandsIreland.ie Midlands Regional Enterprise Longford County Council Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB)
Ever wonder how we can ignite a passion for tech in the next generation? Last week's #EIRDay event with Moyne Community School showed us just how powerful hands-on experience can be. Here’s what happened: 🗼 Students broke into teams to build the tallest spaghetti & marshmallow tower. 🗣️ They heard from EIR’s Head of Apprenticeships and met inspiring female technicians who have built their careers at EIR. 📑 Groups practiced CV writing, honed interview skills, and even crafted ads to promote future apprenticeships. But here’s what stood out: ✨ Students explored career paths in engineering, cyber security, finance, and software development. ✨ They left with newfound excitement for careers in engineering, computer science, and communications. The takeaway? 👩💻 Real experiences spark real interests. 🔑 Early exposure helps students see their potential in tech. 🚀 Mentorship and hands-on learning open doors to promising futures. So here’s to fostering curiosity and building confidence. Because today’s students are tomorrow’s innovators. ➕ Reach out to learn more about how to get involved hosting students and inspiring future innovators! #STEMPInc #STEMEducation #STEMPassport #MentorshipMatters #InclusionInSTEM #TechForGood

Students from #PortlaoiseCollege visited Kellogg Company European HQ to understand how data is used to understand consumer behaviour and trends, how navilense is used in packaging design, and they even created their own cereals as part of a STEM Passport for Inclusion visit #MidlandsICT #midlandsadvantage #stempassport #futureskills #girlsinstem #womeninstem #dataanalytics MidlandsIreland.ie Midlands Regional Enterprise Laois County Council Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board
Still buzzing from yesterday's STEM Passport for Inclusion visit to Kellogg's European HQ for Ada Lovelace Day! Incredible experience. What is the Ada Lovelace Day? 👑 It’s an international day to celebrate the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).🧞♀️ Ada Lovelace was born in 1815 and published what we now call a computer programme to generate Bernoulli Numbers, and she published the most complete and elaborate one in the day 🦾 She saw the creative potential of computers beyond math calculations! Here’s what went down in our visit: 👩💻 Students learned how Kellogg's uses data to understand consumer behavior & trends. 👀 They got hands-on with Navilense tech making packaging accessible for people with sight difficulties. 🥣 And the coolest part? They created their OWN cereal while diving into food science! Why does this matter? 👉 It’s not just about STEM skills. It’s about empowering young girls to innovate and solve REAL-WORLD challenges. 👉 From data-driven marketing to inclusive design—this day was packed with the future of STEM. Huge shoutout to Kellogg Company and #PortlaoiseCollege for making this happen. Our future STEM leaders? They’re READY. 🚀 #STEMPassportForInclusion #STEMForGirls #WomenInSTEM #DataDriven #InclusiveInnovation

🎓 Over the next two days, we’re proud to confer 32 PhD graduates on our Athlone Campus, including Adrielle Moraes, the first-ever TUS PhD graduate from the ADAPT Centre, the world-leading SFI Research Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology. 👏 Adrielle’s groundbreaking thesis, "Evaluating the Impact of Distractors on User Auditory Localisation and Attention Abilities in an Immersive Virtual Reality Experience," explores how we perceive and locate sounds in virtual reality. Her work opens doors for advancements in auditory testing and diagnostics, with potential applications in healthcare and beyond. A special thank you to her supervisors, Dr Niall Murray and Dr Ronan Flynn for their invaluable guidance. We look forward to seeing the impact of Adrielle’s work in the years to come! #TUSGrad2024 #ResearchAtTUS
