Co-living - designed to fill this gap - was barely off the ground before it was scrapped. Instead, we’re left with a system where buyers who need a simple starter home are being offered a three bed semi-detached. What we actually need is choice. Housing that adapts to people at different life stages, from basic, affordable starter homes to more flexible, downsizable options. Other countries are already doing this - why aren’t we?
