Last week held #iwd2025 and #womeninconstructionweek. There’s so many inspiring stories and so much to feel positive about for the future of construction. I wanted to add my own experience even though I’m very much at the start of my career. If you’d have told the girl from Grimsby who was convinced she’d be an English teacher what she’s doing now, truly I’d have never have believed it. I love my job, and every day is different. I meet amazing people across the industry who are so talented. I get to discuss projects that are vital to local communities, and to work on something you know eventually will make a difference is truly an honour. Huge congrats to Lidl Northern Ireland on the opening of their new store in Coleraine last week which achieved a phenomenal A+ EPC (Energy Performance Certificate), the highest possible rating for energy efficiency. Not only is it Lidl's largest store in Northern Ireland but it has the largest array of solar panels to date on any Lidl store throughout the island! The store boasts outstanding sustainable features: - Solar PV (200kWp system) - EV charger (50kW DC) - Heat pump - LED lighting - Heat recovery - High performance building fabric The achievement of an A+ rating is a testament to Lidl's commitment to building the highest level of energy efficiency in their new stores and represents another step towards a sustainable future as part of our “A Better Tomorrow” strategy. We were the Design Consultants for Lidl Northern Ireland on the retail store at the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine. The Coleraine store was the latest investment by Lidl Northern Ireland in the northwest, complementing new store opening in recent years in Strabane, Ballymoney and Limavady. The new store was relocated from its existing position within the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine, where it began trading in 2005, to a larger site within the complex. The new larger site of 2,475m2, including a 1,752m2 sales floor and includes enhanced parking for 152 vehicles as well as two electric vehicle charging points in the build, reflecting Lidl Northern Ireland’s commitment to sustainability and an enhanced customer shopping experience.
