  • We were delighted to welcome Audrey Meade, MSD, to our recent PDA Ireland event on Microbiology in Cork, as a presenter discussing case studies on "Investigations Using Biofluorescent Particle Counting (BFPC) Technology" She provided an overview of the Biofluorescent particle Counting (BFPC) technology, two case studies, and challenges of the technology. She concluded that BFPC systems enable an expedited and more efficient investigative process for EM excursions and can be used proactively to limit risk to production, e.g. post-shutdown, breaches or modifications. Thank you, Audrey, for your preparation for the event, and your presentation and participation on the day. #pdaireland #pda #microbiology #technology #innovation

  • We were delighted to welcome Denise Reddy, MSD Brinny, to our recent PDA Ireland event on Microbiology in Cork, as a speaker on how EM Trending tells the Contamination Story. She told us that trending should not be a tick-the-box exercise; it is all about the data! The data should tell a relatable and useful story, and the data presentation and subsequent trend discussion should result in corrective action, proactively preventing contamination events. She presented some case studies: 📅 Mould on the Move! 📅 The Janitor did it! Where sub-alert incidences were noted in the data reviews, which, although not exceeding action limits, were explored further using heat & hit mapping and detailed review of the data and with operator input resulted in good outcomes. Thank you, Denise, for your preparation for the event, and your presentation and participation on the day. #pdaireland #pda #environmentalmonitoring #trending #microbiology

  • PDA Ireland was delighted to welcome back, Richard Denk, to our Q1 event in Cork last week. Richard is no stranger to our events. He joined us virtually on the day and discussed "Annex 1: Points to Consider on Automation with Robotics" His presentation discussed the evolution from manual aseptic operations to fully gloveless robotics and the focus on 4-x axis and 6-x axis robotics as well as including some interesting case studies Thank you, Richard, for filling in for François Faul and, for the delivery of a very insightful presentation and best of luck in Brussels in April! #pdaireland #pda #robotics #microbiology #contaminationcontrol #annex1

  • At our recent Q1 event in Cork, PDA Ireland was delighted to welcome Karen Capper from AstraZeneca to discuss two areas of innovation and technological advances, which she has been involved in. 1️⃣With increased requirements with data integrity challenges around EM reading, over 30,000 EM agar plates read and verified manually per month, and annual EM data from aseptic manufacturing facilities showing that >98% of plates were negative, it was time to explore different solutions to EM plate reading. Karen took the audience through the benefits they have seen with the use of AI plate readers for EM. She took the audience through the validation process, what the key deliverables were at each phase and discussed some challenges and how they were overcome. 2️⃣ Karen discussed the introduction of UV and Light Bioburden Reduction Technologies, including UV-C Fully Autonomous Robots for clean-room disinfecting, UV222 Booths designed to disinfect garb-clad personnel right at the entrance to classified spaces, UV Medico Room Lights and Vyv Visible Light Thank you, Karen, for your preparations for the day with your two presentations and your active participation in the day.

  • At our recent Q1 event in Cork, PDA Ireland was delighted to welcome Maya (Maria) Przybylo from Sanofi in Waterford to present "Virtual Reality Training in an Aseptic Manufacturing Environment". Maya took us through the evolution of "virtual reality" from concepts of stereopsis in 1838 to Pygmalion’s Spectacles in 1935! VR technology and Learning offers: ✅ Immersive Learning Experiences ✅Realistic Simulations ✅Immediate Feedback ✅Enhanced Engagement and Motivation ✅Allows Remote Collaboration The audience heard the many training benefits, using VR in an aseptic manufacturing environment and watched some videos showing the interactive usage. Thank you, Maya, for your preparations for the day and your active participation. PDA - Parenteral Drug Association PDA Ireland #pdaireland #pda #microbiology #virtualreality #innovation #technology

  • At our recent Q1 event in Cork, PDA Ireland was delighted to welcome Niamh Bissett from West Pharmaceutical Services give her presentation on Contamination Control Strategies across the Supply Chain. As part of the Revised Annex 1, the supplier is a key part of the Contamination Control Strategy (CCS). The audience strongly agreed on the day that "A CCS requires both individual and collective effectiveness to evolve." The West concept of "Contamination Control starts with Me" was a key talking point and has driven an effective campaign in which everyone within the organisation is responsible for ensuring they understand their impact on the overall organisation's CCS. Thank you, Niamh, for your preparations for the day and your active participation in the day. • At our recent Q1 event in Cork, PDA Ireland was delighted to have Evin Allen from the iEd Hub in UCC give the opening remarks on the future of Microbiology from an academic perspective. Evin took us through the evolution of Innovation and technology from the late 1700s to today and how educators have asked themselves, "To GenAI or not to GenAI?" With much uncertainty within the industry due to Geopolitics, the complexity of medicines, and the rate of technological changes increasing, Innovation and technology are here to stay, and we all need to embrace and adapt rather than avoid or outrun them. In terms of microbiology, with Technology bringing us Rapid Micro Methods, Robotics bringing us Lights Out Production capabilities, AI bringing us plate reading and trending capabilities, and Virtual Reality bringing us usage in Training and Tech Transfer, the future is bright. Thank you, Evin, for your preparations for the day and your active participation in the day. #pdaireland #pda #microbiology #innovation #technology

  • “Empowered women create empowered societies." On this International Women’s Day, PDA Ireland wish to applaud 👏 and thank all the strong females who actively support our non- profit organisation. Our organisation would not exist without their experiences, knowledge, drive, resilience and passion to spread their expertises for the greater good of Connecting People, Science & Regulation. Our recent Microbiology event in Cork was testimony to this with more than half the speaker panel made up of females, each giving their time and dedication to deliver some powerful presentations which are still being talked about over a week on. "Strong women don't wait for doors to open—they build their own." Audrey Meade Elizabeth Collins Maya (Maria) Przybylo Karen Capper Niamh Bissett and Denise Reddy Note: Missing from the group picture is Connie Leech.

Networking and collaboration are key goals for PDA - Parenteral Drug Association and all events worldwide encourage this engagement. Here at PDA Ireland our events always start the evening before with a Drink & Canapés reception 🥂. This is a great opportunity to meet with all the speakers, organising committee, PDA Ireland officers and exhibitors in a relaxed environment where old friends meet and new friendships are fostered. With both the sharing and gaining of knowledge, these evenings are always a great success. Take a look at some of the snaps taken this week by Ted Murphy of our Q1 first networking reception.
