  • Great to see construction progressing on the new liquid fertiliser storage tanks at the Premier Molasses storage terminal at Ringaskiddy in Cork. Each of the 3 new storage tanks are 21m in diameter and 13.5m high, giving a storage capacity of 5,520m³ per tank. The tanks are supported on piled concrete raft foundations and are being supplied and installed by Balmoral Tanks. PUNCH has provided lead consultancy services for all stages of this project which is due for completion in January 2025.

Another great moment for our Opera Square programme, with the 'topping out' of One Opera Square - reaching the roof top on a six storey project which commenced just this February. This project is developed by Treaty Stone Partnership, a unique joint venture between Limerick Twenty Thirty and the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund and is on course for completion to fit out stage as early as April next year. Congratulations to contractors John Sisk & Son Ltd and everyone working on this world class project including National Treasury Management Agency & Limerick City and County Council. The €80M project will be an employment hub for 1,000 people and it will be the first commercial building in the Midwest to achieve this level of sustainable design accreditation.  The building is EU Taxonomy Compliant and meets the highest sustainability, efficiency and digital connectivity standards achieving the top accreditation possible including LEED Platinum, WiredScore Platinum and WELL Platinum. Colin O Grady, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱: “We are delighted to achieve this milestone at One Opera Square. The project so far has involved large demolition and enabling works including navigating delicate works around retaining 16 of 18 Georgian buildings as well as archaeological features. We were delighted to attend the official opening by An Tánaiste Micheál Martin of the new state of the art Ophthalmology Outpatient/Emergency Care Unit plus Theatres accommodation at the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork. The new ophthalmology unit is designed to serve the growing needs of eye care patients in the Cork and Kerry region and is expected to serve 45,000 patients a year. This long awaited facility, features state of the art equipment and will help to facilitate a reduction in waiting times for ophthalmology services in the region. The contribution of all design team members was recognised by the speakers at the event in bringing this new facility to fruition. And ultimately the really positive impacts of the work we do as Consulting Engineers is never more important than in the area of healthcare, which always impacts so positively and directly on people's lives. While strolling around Maynooth University on a Sunday morning, ahead of my son's match, it was lovely to see the Education Hub building looking so well in the midst of this beautiful campus. As Engineer's and construction professionals it is wonderful to see the fruits of our work for all to enjoy. PUNCH has a long and very proud history of working in Maynooth University on buildings such as the Education Hub and many others.
