A B- grade is great, but it's "not enough to achieve a truly sustainable society or to meet national and international climate targets in the first place, and that faster action is now needed." #actnow #renewableenergy #climateaction https://lnkd.in/eS8unyMp

Bottle necks in our planning departments are contributing to higher bills, more fossil fuel imports and even more carbon emissions. Investments in the necessary skills, in planning departments, will speed up decision making, bringing us closer to meeting our 2030 Climate Action Plan. #CAP2030 #renewableenergy

With data centres now accounting for 21% of electricity consumption in Ireland, more than all domestic residences combined, and set to rise to 30% consumption driven by the computing requirements of AI, more must be done to diversify their power supply. The innovation is there to increase efficiencies through laser technology, but innovation is also increasing the demand for energy-intensive computing infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/etp9a63c #nationalgrid #innovation #energyefficiency
Data centres use a lot of electricity, but can this be reduced?

Of the 6.9m hectares of land available in Ireland, just 64% of this is suitable for agricultural purposes - or 11m acres*. To meet our renewable energy targets by 2030, we need to produce 8,000MW** of electricity from solar, utilising approximately 24,000 acres - or just 0.22% of the agricultural land available. There are plenty of opportunities to develop our solar and wind renewable sources - and with the growth of hybrid solutions to share infrastructure and reduce costs, this will become even more important as we work towards a net zero future.
