The second post in our Utilities Smart Grid series 'Path to Plugfest' ahead of the Utility Broadband Alliance (UBBA) Plugfest in Kansas (Nov 4-8). The future of smart grid technologies is here with AMI 2.0 and Private LTE. It’s not just about smart grids - this technology powers everything from real-time data for smarter energy use to unlocking the energy transition and optimized field crews. We discuss: 💡 Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI): How AMI advanced from 1.0 to 2.0, offering utilities smarter, real-time control over the grid. ❓ Why AMI 2.0 Matters Now: Addressing aging infrastructure, the rise of distributed energy resources (DERs), and the need for real-time grid management. 🗼 Private LTE (PLTE): The role of PLTE in supporting not only the grid but also smart devices, field crews, and private wireless. 🏗️ Build vs. Lease for PLTE: Exploring the benefits and trade-offs of building versus leasing PLTE networks. Want to dive deeper into how this tech is shaping the world around us? Let’s meet at Plugfest and explore what’s next for smart infrastructure. #Innovation #SmartNetworks #FutureTech #UtilityTech #AMI2 #PrivateLTE #GridInnovation Utility Broadband Alliance (UBBA) Bobbi Harris, MBA

Critical, and welcomed, development for the UK Energy market as Ofgem revisits it's energy connections framework. Improving the process and optimising connection requests will greatly speed up the improvements needed for the grid to meet its exploding demands from #AI #EV and support a rapid shift toward #EnergyTransition. #TheGrid #GreenEnergy #DNO #SaaS
This month Ofgem published a letter detailing its vision for reforming the regulatory framework for energy connections. This plan, developed with support from the government and the Electricity System Operator (ESO), aims to align the connections process with strategic network planning and the UK’s Clean Power 2030 Plan. The move is intended to establish clear standards that projects must meet to receive confirmed connection offers, focusing on factors such as project readiness and strategic importance. This is meant to ensure that available capacity is allocated efficiently and that projects critical to energy security and system reliability are prioritised. A reform of the regulatory framework for energy connection will have a positive long-term impact. Aurora Utilities Limited is at the forefront of this drive to ensure grid connections are as efficient as possible. We prioritise effective communication, customer service and collaboration with key stakeholders such as DNOs to connect new developments to the electricity grid quicker. The UK's grid battery storage situation is puzzling. 🤔 We're sitting on a goldmine of potential, yet we're not digging. In my years working on telecom infrastructure projects, I've seen how the right incentives can spark innovation. Battery storage is no different. Here's why it matters: → Stabilizes renewable energy supply → Speeds up the transition to #NetZero → Creates new jobs and industries It's not just about building more batteries. It's about: 1. Smart government policies 2. National Grid investing in software to manage itself better (see the FT article!) 3. Collaboration with private developers These steps could supercharge our energy transition. "The benefits of batteries have been evident since 2020, when the UK's electricity system operators took part in trials that suggested batteries could deliver £700,000 of savings in just three weeks..." https://lnkd.in/eux-Ea48 I'm curious: What roadblocks do you see in scaling up battery storage? Is it National Grid? Is it planning legislation? Will Connection Reform do the trick? #EnergyTransition #GridInnovation Sitenna

We are devastated to see the growing impact and death toll of Hurricane Helene across the communities in our adopted home of the South Eastern United States. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities directly impacted. Our thoughts and prayers are also with our customers and partners in the infrastructure community as they navigate through the aftermath of the storm. We understand the critical role that infrastructure plays in connecting communities with power, water, connectivity and services. None more so than when a devastating weather event highlights how fragile Infrastructure can be. We are deeply grateful for the resilience and dedication shown by first responders, linemen, and all the essential services working tirelessly to restore normalcy. #Helene #FirstResponders #Infrastructure #FEMA #Resiliance https://lnkd.in/eFNPB8vw
