About us

Tesco is one of the biggest private sector employers in Ireland employing over 13,000 colleagues across the country. Our core purpose is to serve our customers, communities and planet a little better every day - this is at the heart of everything we do. Supporting local suppliers is very much part of the business ethos of Tesco Ireland; we source from almost 500 Irish food and drink suppliers, in turn supporting almost 14,000 Irish farm families. All of the fresh beef, pork, lamb and eggs that Tesco Ireland sells are 100% Irish. In Ireland and internationally, we provide opportunities to get on, with diverse careers spanning retail stores, head office and our distribution centres. As we mark World Food Day, we're thrilled to see the positive and proactive progress of our primary meat producers, who have signed up to the Meat Industry Ireland Charter for Sustainable Beef, launched by Charlie McConalogue Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine in recent days.   The dedication to sustainability from our suppliers in the meat industry aligns with and supports our shared priorities, building on the significant strides already made towards a sustainable future. #WorldFoodDay #Agriculture

Maintaining strong multi-year partnerships with Irish Suppliers such as Aurivo Co-operative Society Limited is key to the success of our business. 🐄 🥛 🧈 👨🌾 We’ve just signed a €36 million multi-year agreement with the Northwest based coop to supply 28 million litres of milk and cream, as well as branded butter and milkshake drinks, to all 177 of our stores nationwide. This is just one of a number of renewals and expansions of multi-year partnerships with Irish suppliers worth €200m in the coming weeks. Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue welcomed the investment : “This €200m investment announced by Tesco Ireland in Donegal represents a vote of confidence in the Irish agrifood sector, underlining the performance and value of our quality products and the significant economic contribution of our agri food producers to our rural and national communities.” We recently travelled to a farm in Donegal to meet with one of the 1,000 farming families who supply fresh milk every day for our customers right across the country. Our commitment to Irish Suppliers remains as strong as ever, and with that we've just announced a €200 million investment for the renewal and expansion of multi-year partnerships with Irish brands including Aurivo Co-operative Society Limited, Irish Yogurts, Country Crest, Freshways, Silver Pail, Ballymaguire Foods, Bandon Vale, and Crust & Crumb. As part of our support for Irish suppliers and agribusiness, the northwest-based dairy co-op, Aurivo, has signed a €36 million multi-year agreement with Tesco to supply 28 million litres of milk and cream, as well as branded butter and milkshake drinks, to all 177 of their stores nationwide. As a group Tesco buys €1.6 billion of Irish food and drink annually, more than the value of Irish food and drink exported to any country in the European Union. This makes Tesco is the single largest retail purchaser of Irish food and drink in the world, buying €1.6 billion a year, as verified by Indecon International Consultants. Joe Manning, Commercial Director, Tesco Ireland, joined Minister Charlie McConalogue in Donegal for the announcement “We are giving multi-year certainty to our partners, so they can further develop and grow with confidence, having already enjoyed long relationships with Tesco over many years. We are committed to providing our customers with outstanding quality, choice, and availability of fresh and packaged products. Fortunately, the Irish agrifood sector is similarly focused on delivering for our customers, which is why we are investing this €200 million in new and expanded agreements with several Irish agrifood suppliers.” Pictured from left to right Stephen Blewitt, General Manager, Dairy, Aurivo, Minister Charlie McConalogue TD and Joe Manning, Commercial Director, Tesco Ireland https://lnkd.in/eiQAGUhe

Today, we attended the SDG Champions 2023-24 Showcase as an SDG Ambassador. Having completed the champion programme, it's vital for us to stay connected, and continue to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.   This event offered a brilliant platform to not only celebrate the initiatives of the new SDG Champions but also to engage with like-minded individuals who are committed to creating a sustainable future.   As a grocery retailer, we are particularly committed to tackling SDG2 which aims to tackle hunger. Alongside our Surplus Food Donations programme and partnerships with FoodCloud and Olio • Share More, Waste Less, Tesco Stronger Starts Food, our schools programme supporting children and families in need, is part of our commitment to driving awareness of the SDGs across Irish society, and lead by example in how small changes ladder up to make a big difference.       #SDGIreland

Thanks to the generosity of our colleagues and customers, €87,362 worth of products were donated through our Stronger Starts Summer Food Collection over the past three months. As an added bonus we will also be donating an additional €200 Tesco gift voucher to each of the 86 local Family Resource Centre's (Family Resource Centre National Forum) and community groups who took part in this summer’s collection. We hope that this provides another little help to those who need it.  #StrongerStarts
