I was recently a guest on That Great Business Show with Conall Ó Móráin. An absolute gentleman within Irish media and our conversation felt like five minutes not 35. The smell of fresh baked breads and cream cakes, the chat from the butchers and fishmongers in the store, the friendly staff and absolute attention to service first detail was a motto not lost on me even back then. These principles of great retailing have stood the test of time and I found myself chatting with Conall about them. I also found myself sharing with Conall a recent visit to Petmania. He's been through the mill. Made redundant after 35 years, totally not expecting it. Finding out that the jobs he wanted weren't there. Then, having set up his business, the job offers came flying in. Brendan has sage advice for those of you (most of you?) who think you'd love to have a totally different career. He even advises retirees on how not to retire. A great listen. #Ireland is the land of the #fairies and Emma Crewe is going to bring the Tooth Fairy to the world. She's creating a fairy kingdom aimed at every child that loses a tooth - so that's every child. It's a massive market. She launches in Arnotts in November, then she's off to take on the world. She'll need €500k to do that, but the likes of Smyths Toys Superstores may like to come on the ride to fairyland. It's a beautiful product, and it's only the beginning of her dreams...
