We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Colm McLoughlin, a true visionary whose contributions helped shape the global duty-free industry, which began here at Shannon Airport in 1947. Colm's legacy and influence will continue to inspire, and he will be profoundly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Breeda, family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
With profound sorrow, we report the passing of Colm McLoughlin, Dubai Duty Free’s long-time Executive Vice Chairman and CEO and one of travel retail’s greatest statesmen at age 81. Colm, who retired on 31 May after precisely 55 years in the travel retail sector, passed late last night. We join the global travel retail community in expressing our deepest condolences to Colm’s wife Breeda (pictured with Colm below), daughters Tyna and Mandy, and son Niall and the wider McLoughlin family. 🌻 Shannon Airport Joins Global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Network 🌍 We are proud to launch Shannon Airport’s participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Ireland programme, and to be the first organisation in Ireland to introduce tapitags as part of our efforts to raise awareness of the programme! 🌻 Passengers with non-visible disabilities can now access free Sunflower lanyards, signalling their need for additional support. We've also introduced 15 tapitag points throughout our terminal, where passengers can scan QR codes to learn more about the programme and the supports available. At Shannon Airport, we believe travel is for everyone, and we are committed to ensuring an inclusive experience for all passengers. 🎓 I am delighted and privileged to have graduated on Monday with an airport-focused PhD from Dublin City University. My deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to my Supervisors, DCU Business School and PhD colleagues who have supported me at various stages over the past six years. I’m also very grateful to my airport industry ‘cabinet’ members, who were an invaluable sounding board during rapidly changing times. A very special thanks too to my dear family and close friends, for their unwavering support over the course of my studies. Our CEO, Mary Considine, was honoured to speak at the launch of a new photographic exhibition at the Glucksman Library, University of Limerick, which celebrates the Shannon Development archive – a collection entrusted to UL by The Shannon Airport Group in 2014. The archive, showcases over five decades of history, capturing the transformation of Shannon from its agricultural roots into a thriving industrial and tourism hub. The exhibition, as highlighted by Acting UL President Professor Shane Kilcommins, is not just a collection of images but "a testament to the vision, hard work, and dedication of many individuals and organisations."
