🔦 Spotlight on the Global Survivors Fund: Advancing the Role of the Survivor in Reparation Acts The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was founded in 2019 to ensure that survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) have access to reparations and justice. Built on the principle of "for survivors and with survivors," the Fund co-creates solutions in partnership with survivor-led networks. Survivors are actively involved in conceptualising, designing, and evaluating reparative measures, ensuring that their needs and priorities shape the policies meant to serve them. One powerful example Maya Shah gave of this work in our 16Days webinar is the Kinshasa Declaration, where survivors from 12 African countries came together to define what reparations meant to them. Their collective vision has since been used as an advocacy tool for national governments to take responsibility for listening to survivors. Similarly, in Ukraine, GSF worked alongside survivors and government officials to draft legislation on urgent interim reparations, which has since been adopted—marking a major milestone in survivor-led legal reform. She will share insights on survivor-led approaches to reparations and how survivors must be recognised as key decision-makers in shaping justice processes. There is always a first time for everything, and this time World Vision Solomon Islands launched the Child Sponsorship Program called Iumi Tugeda fo Pikinini.   Last week marked a significant milestone with the Indaba (Consultation) Workshop which was held in the Honiara Area Program. The workshop focused on validating, prioritizing, and planning actions related to child well-being. It was a landmark occasion as Steering Committees—comprised of community representatives, members of the National Advisory Committee (including government ministries and church leaders), and children—convened to engage in these essential discussions. This gathering emerged from comprehensive community consultations.   We are excited to embark on this impactful journey in partnership with World Vision New Zealand, World Vision Ireland, and World Vision South Asia Pacific, utilizing an Adaptive Program Approach for effective implementation.

Morgane and Laurene from World Vision Ireland embarked on a journey recently to witness first-hand the inspiring efforts of young changemakers in the cities of Marawi and Cotabato.  Over 3,000 children, youth, and community members have been empowered to lead peace initiatives in conflict-affected areas through World Vision Philippines’ Promoting Efforts Addressing Conflict through Education in Mindanao (PEACE Mindanao) project, co-funded by the European Union and World Vision Ireland.  During the visit, the World Vision team engaged with children and youth who shared their personal experiences and insights on peacebuilding. World Vision’s approach focuses on strengthening local capacities by working with children, youth, faith leaders, and community stakeholders. By promoting inclusive and safe spaces, the project helps young people define their own understanding of peace and how it connects to their daily lives. As of December 2024, the PEACE Mindanao project has trained 1,572 students and 1,101 youth in peacebuilding, established 15 School Peace Clubs and 19 Community Peace Clubs, and supported 230 teachers and 37 civil society members in conflict sensitivity training. Through mentoring sessions, peace action plans, and advocacy efforts, young leaders are transforming their communities and influencing local policies for a more peaceful Mindanao.

The report from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council and Climate Change Advisory Council paints a stark picture of the potential costs of failing to meet EU climate targets.
