    Ever wondered if the wheat you're buying truly matches its label? ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒพWe're using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) to uncover surprising patterns in wheat categories. By analyzing wheat samples, we're creating a visual representation where different colors signify different wheat categories. While some grains align perfectly with their expected category, others tell a different story. Our analysis shows that while some wheat varieties clearly stand out, others surprisingly cluster together despite different labels. This means that the biochemical composition of the purchased grains often differs from what was expected, leading to inconsistencies in quality and performance. As an example, millers might be paying a premium for wheat that's functionally identical to a cheaper option!     We're honored to be part of an exciting pilot project in Germany that's addressing key industry trends: regional sourcing, high protein content, and sustainability in plant-based foods.๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿซ› ๐Ÿค Farmers Jens Mattern and Marius Bischoff, in collaboration with GREENFORCE and BayWa AG, are field testing new Equinom pea varieties across 20-30 hectares. The goal? To identify pea varieties optimally suited for local agriculture and food processing. ๐Ÿ’ช While field peas aren't new to Germany, we're providing an exciting variety with a focus on higher protein yields. This Equinom pea has an impressive 30% protein content compared to traditional field peas, which typically contain 22-25% protein. The higher protein concentration means less processing effort and greater potential for diverse vegan food products. Importantly, our peas require no special cultivation techniques compared to standard field peas. ๐ŸŒŽ Peas offer another valuable asset below ground: nitrogen-fixing nodule bacteria on their roots. This natural process reduces the need for nitrogen fertilizers, promoting more sustainable farming practices.
