Here’s why Hailo made my list of the Top 13 AI/ML Startups to Bet On Changing the World… The “Age of AI Everywhere” is advancing rapidly as the industry shifts from developing LLMs in data centers to enabling inference at the Edge, which I believe is the key to unlocking human potential on a global scale. With Edge AI, agricultural robots will help maximize crop yields and reduce hunger, helping entire populations satisfy their basic needs and seek higher pursuits. The proliferation of cheap, AI-enabled smartphones will help cultures in developing regions access educational and trade opportunities that raise families out of poverty. But another key element humans need in their lives to be free to be productive is safety, and Hailo is one of the Edge AI startups I believe is best positioned to create solutions for ALL of those applications above. It helps that their founding executives deeply understand the importance of security. CEO Orr Danon served ten years in the Israeli Defense Forces Elite Technology Unit, where he met his peer, Hailo’s CTO Avi Baum. After their service, they partnered to develop early IoT solutions and during that time, discovered advancements in AI deep learning models that could enhance IoT devices. Deciding to start Hailo in 2017 with the late Rami Feig their mission was to make cities smarter and safer. They developed a non-Von Neumann architecture to process data efficiently at the Edge, leading them to create a line of processors that are network-adaptive and powerful enough for applications like advanced object detection in vision systems. While Hailo's solutions have already proven effective in agricultural and medical applications, I believe their greatest potential lies in security, public safety, and crime prevention. With a $120 million Series C raised in April, they’re well-positioned to commercialize their accelerators and vision processing chips for these purposes and it couldn’t be more timely. Law enforcement and defense organizations worldwide need new tools to combat crime. I was invited to speak at a law enforcement leader conference tomorrow, and will share how this type of Real Time Crime Center technology can transform all aspects of their role, from crime stopping to crime prevention. I also plan to share the criticality of deploying AI responsibly and I believe companies like Hailo play a vital role in educating about what that means. I’ve had engineers and developers tell me they want NO part of working on AI for any security-related applications because of ethical reasons, and these have been some of the world’s best engineers. The more Hailo can do to advocate for the merits of AI while being transparent with their customers, partners, and potential employees about its potential hazards, the more people are going to be willing to sacrifice some privacy for increased security… and the more talent they’ll be able to attract. #semiconductorindustry #artificalintelligence #machinelearning

    CEO at velo.ai — 🤖🚲🚀

I'm truly humbled to announce that velo.ai has been selected for the U.S. Department of Transportation Complete Streets AI SBIR. We'll be deploying a fleet of bicycle-mounted sensors (via POGOH bike share) to capture near-miss interactions between bicyclists and vehicles, and to inform transportation planners on the advocacy, design, and implementation of improved street infrastructure for bicyclist and pedestrian safety. Our team is perfectly suited to execute on this SBIR, and we've assembled an amazing set of partners (The Ehrlichman Group, Carnegie Mellon University Mobility Data Analytics Center, and Bike Share Pittsburgh Inc. - POGOH) to make this happen. We're excited to be at the forefront of AI applications for road safety, and we'll be doing so right here in our home of Pittsburgh, PA, with both local and national support from so many amazing organizations.
