📦 Healthcare logistics has faced unprecedented challenges over the past few years. Felipe Morgulis, recently shared insights with Il Giornale della Logistica. 📰 An excerpt from the print article, co-authored by Francesca Saporiti and Nicoletta Ferrini: The pandemic, the international transportation crisis, and inflation have highlighted the need for resilience, flexibility, and innovation in pharmaceutical supply chain management. To address these challenges and ensure the continuity of essential supplies, companies are adopting different strategies. "Over the past few years, we have seen the pharmaceutical industry focus on reducing costs and moving the majority of API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) manufacturing locations to Asia. At the same time, we have seen an increasing number of organic products coming to market that require specialized storage and transportation conditions and a limited margin for error. The result is longer and more complex supply chains," said Felipe Morgulis. All this before the pandemic, the geopolitical conflicts and all that followed. Supply chains have been severely tested. And we have also had to build new ones in record time, as in the case of the delivery of more than a billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine." In addition to the economic phenomena, there are also the dynamics of a constantly evolving scenario. "Healthcare companies of all sizes are rapidly innovating to keep pace with the needs of an aging population and the challenges of chronic disease, and it's up to us to provide end-to-end solutions to meet all of these needs. Our goal is to ensure simplicity in an increasingly complex healthcare environment, particularly in six key segments: cold chain, advanced clinical therapies, laboratories and diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, home health care, and medical devices." Today, more than 40% of all new pharmaceuticals under development are biologics/biotechs. The cold chain market itself has been growing steadily over the past five years and is expected to reach $23.7 billion by 2030. "Over the past few years, we have more than doubled our presence in healthcare warehouses, created the world's largest fleet of cold chain vehicles, and used the latest automation technologies to give our network greater adaptability, flexibility and resilience."
