Minecraft Tricky Trials Update Adds New Weapons, Mobs, and More; Rumors Hint at a Possible PS5 Version

Minecraft's newest major update, the Tricky Trials, released on June 13.

The 1.21 update includes new trial chambers full of traps and treasures, as well as fresh mobs to battle, twenty additional paintings, and new block variants like Tuff and Copper. The update also introduces the Breeze, a new version of the Blaze mob that glides around the map with wind gusts and drops Breeze Rods for mace crafting. Additionally, there is also the Bogged, an evolved skeleton which is found in trial chambers and Overworld swamps, which shoots poison arrows.

Weapons & Enchantments

The mace is a new weapon made from Breeze rods or a Heavy Core found in the Ominous Vaults. It has a strong smash attack that gets more powerful the further you fall.

The Mace comes with three enchantments:

  • Density Enchantment: Increases damage (+0.5 hearts per level)
  • Breach Enchantment: Reduces enemy armor effectiveness (-15% per level)
  • Wind Burst Enchantment: Throws you into the air after a successful smash attack

New potions introduced in Minecraft 1.21

  • Infested: An Infested mob gets a 10% chance to spawn 1–2 Silverfish when injured
  • Wind Charged: A Wind Charged mob/player creates a wind burst effect on death
  • Weaving: A Weaved mob spawns 2–3 cobwebs on death, and can move through cobwebs faster
  • Oozing: An Oozing mob spawns two Slimes on death

Minecraft coming to PlayStation?

Rumours suggest that Minecraft might finally be getting a native PS5 version.

With the release of the Tricky Trials Update, a user posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), that in the game's settings, there's a “PlayStation 5 Preview” button which further led to speculations that a native PS5 version of Minecraft could be in the works. For now, though, the button preview button has been removed.
