Advanced Battery and Ceramics Laboratory (ABCL) is a research group led by Prof. Amartya Mukhopadhyay at IIT Bombay
About us
The group’s research activities include electrode materials and electrolytes for advanced electrochemical energy storage systems, i.e., alkali metal-ion and metal-based batteries, and also engineering ceramics. The focus is on the understanding of the materials’ composition-structure-properties and correlations between the materials’ and electrochemical aspects in the context of electrochemical energy storage; leading to the evolution of new concepts, novel/high-performance electrode/electrolyte materials and, eventually, high-performance next-generation battery systems. The motive and functioning of the research group can be summarized as; ‘from concepts → materials → electrodes/electrolytes → cell development → battery prototype’. The supervisor of this group is Prof. Amartya Mukhopadhyay.
