Transforming rural livelihoods through organic farming

About us

Akshayakalpa is India’s first certified organic dairy enterprise bringing together a balance of practices based in science and the traditional heritage of dairy farming. At Akshayakalpa, sustainability is not a choice, it is a way of life. Our farmer-first, planet-friendly approach ensures every product that goes from our lush farms to your fridge is rich in nutrition, free antibiotics, chemicals and preservatives. At the heart of our eco-system is our community of farmers. Our farmer entrepreneurship initiatives empower them by providing the resources required to emulate a business model that is not only profitable but humane, honest and above all, ethical. We believe in conforming to standards of what is good and right. At Akshayakalpa, this begins at the grass-root level - literally! Organic fodder grown on our farms is the source of nourishment for our cows. No chemicals or hormones are added to their diet and thus do not find their way into the produce. Our cows are free-roaming and stress-free, which positively impacts the quality of the milk and it is high in nutrition and taste. We are part of an on-going journey to create sustainable dairy farms which are a perfect amalgamation of our goal to nurture nature, preserve traditional practices and our scientific expertise. Akshayakalpa Organic milk is the main ingredient for all our products and it is here that we begin our assurance of quality and taste. Our milk is untouched by human hands, cooled via scientifically designed techniques and packaged with utmost care. This ensures zero-contamination and a high quality of product – both of which are tested regularly at our facility. Our Farm Fresh Milk and A2 Milk are used in our other organic dairy products like curd, ghee, butter, paneer and artisan cheese under the Akshayakalpa brand. Each of these products bear the stamp of sustainability, nutrition and great taste – everything Akshayakalpa stands for!

Why do dairy favorites like paneer, cheese, and curd come with a side of whey? And should you sip it? When milk is transformed into paneer, curd, or cheese, its protein structure changes. During this process, the whey protein in the milk separates into liquid whey and the solid product ( cheese, paneer or curd). This whey is rich in lactose and sugars, comprising about 95% of its content. It is nutritious and we don't let whey go to waste. Especially the cheese whey that we receive, is the key ingredient of our organic mango whey drink. So, the next time you spot whey in your dairy, know it’s perfectly natural, and maybe even savor a sip! We use cow dung to cook food at our farms.   The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze us. From the grandeur of mountains to the gentle grace of cows, all hold a piece of the puzzle that makes our world so rich and diverse. And yet, even the most seemingly simple things can hold the power to change our world for the better. At Akshayakalpa organic farms, we cook food with the help of cow dung. We have biogas plants which facilitate this whole process of transforming the methane in cow manure into a sustainable source of renewable energy. Apart from our canteen in our model farms where we feed over 700 people per day, and by default part of 1200+ Akshayakalpa Organic farmers. Our farmers save around 1-1.5 LPG cylinders every month. The world of soil and farming research is indeed fascinating! At Akshayakalpa we are continually learning and uncovering new insights into the complex relationships between soil, plants, microorganisms, and the environment. Some of the most exciting areas of research include: 1. Soil microbiome: Understanding the diverse communities of microorganisms living in soil and their role in plant health and nutrient cycling. 2. Regenerative agriculture: Exploring practices that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services while promoting carbon sequestration and climate resilience, integrating sustainable dairy and vegetable cultivation. 3. Simple tech & data agriculture: Developing technologies to optimize crop growth, reduce waste, and minimize environmental impact through data-driven and feasible tech decision making. 4.Manure, compost, mulch: Innovating sustainable methods for growing food in unconventional spaces, increasing local food security, while making insitu manure from all the agri waste at farms. The importance of soil and farming research cannot be overstated, as it has the potential to transform our food systems, mitigate climate change, and ensure global food security. #akshayakalpa #akshayakalpaorganic #organicfarm #organicmilk #savefarmers #research #scienceandtechnology #scientists #farmresearch #learning #sustainability

Happy world coconut day! Coconut trees are called Kalpavriksha as they are a magnificent symbol of growth, nourishment, and interconnectedness. True to its name, from fruits to leaves every part of the tree has something wonderful to offer. In India, it is the most popular fruit in our household. Everywhere we go, we find coconut trees, coconut bowls, people drinking tender coconut water, grating coconut in their food and using copra in the most innovative ways you could think of. Yet coconut farmers in India face key challenges like insecure farmer income, an insufficient supply of productive coconut trees, and low coconut yields. For the past 14 years, we at Akshayakalpa Organic have been working towards rejuvenating soil health in and around Tiptur. We've witnessed something amazing! Although the supply of coconuts saw a drastic decline from 2019 to 2020 in India, at Akshayakalpa we saw a good increase in the coconut yield from 2010 to 2020 from 53 coconuts per tree to 86 coconuts per tree. And we've learned something wonderful along the way. When it comes to mother nature, recovering what we lost is not impossible. We have seen in real how working with soil can turn things around. We believe that the only way to see a change in the world is to be the change. Hence we work closely with soil every day and run hands-on soil-related workshops like composting for all the people who come to visit us at our farms. Cheese is known as a whole food; a food as close to its natural form as possible, with minimal to no processing. The nutrition you get from cheese can vary a lot depending on what kind of cheese you eat — and how much. Beneficial nutrients present in cheese include: protein, vitamin - A, B12, D, K, Calcium, Zinc, omega-3 fatty acids. The key to finding healthier cheeses is reading the label. So that you steer clear of highly processed cheese - which may contain additives and high levels of sodium and that contains artificial flavors. Consider artisan cheeses that are traditionally made without heavy processing. Choose cheeses that are made from organic milk that is free from antibiotics, where the cows are fed on organic green fodder, and raised in stress free environment. Research has shown that dairy products like cheese can help keep you from getting cavities in your teeth. The other major benefits of cheese include improved bone and muscle health, eases inflammation, prevent heart diseases, lowers BP and protects blood vessels and promotes gut health with its probiotic properties. So, do not fret of the fats in cheese, they do have essential CLA and fats that are beneficial. Enjoy your cheese! Manure making is a crucial aspect of organic farming at Akshayakalpa. It is worth to note that making insitu manure offers numerous benefits for soil health, plant growth, and the environment. It can also help sequester carbon in the soil, mitigating climate change, while it enriches the soil with natural N, P,K and increases the microbial activity supporting sustainable agricultural practices and balancing the ecosystem. By incorporating manure making into organic farming practices, farmers can create a closed-loop system that enhances soil fertility, supports biodiversity, and contributes to a healthier environment and healthier us. Krishna stole hearts that were as pure and soft as butter just the way the pure butter is; our hearts need to be spotless. One mustn't nurse anger, pride, greed, envy, hatred and ego in the heart. Krishna, the butter thief characteristic is often seen as a symbol of Krishna's divine and playful nature. In some stories, Krishna's love for butter is even said to represent his desire for spiritual nourishment and the sweetness of divine love. The best consumer characteristic is a matter of debate, but some top contenders include: Uttama: A farmer- consumer who grows his own food that he consumes, and knows everything about the source of the food. Madhyama: A consumer who takes efforts to find the right source of food for his consumption though he doesn’t involve in growing it himself. Adhama: A consumer who is mindless about food choices. Does not care where, what and how the food is sourced. PS: Shashi Kumar explaining the 3 categories of being a wise and responsible consumer. To elevate oneself to the highest level and the efforts that is needed. Which characteristic do you think is most valuable and how would you contribute to the sustainability in food systems?
