The Health Minister of Karnataka Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao has launched a commendable initiative aimed at eliminating cervical cancer through 99-70-90 WHO Strategy. Under the targeted vaccination program specifically State has focused on 14-year-old school children from six backward districts in the Kalyan Karnataka region: Bidar, Koppal, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, and Gulbarga. By focusing on this age group, the initiative aligns closely with the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommendation for vaccinating children aged 9 to 14 years against HPV, the primary cause of cervical cancer. This step is particularly significant as it addresses the upper age limit set by WHO guidelines, ensuring that even those at the older end of the spectrum are not left out. This initiative not only marks a significant stride towards public health improvement in these underserved areas but also sets a precedent for other states to follow. It underscores the importance of inclusive health policies that cater to all segments of the recommended age group, thereby maximizing the impact of preventive measures against cervical cancer.
