How can healthcare be made more affordable for Indians? This was the pressing question non-life insurers and hospital executives met with NITI Aayog to tackle. Now, here are the key takeaways from their discussion: 💸 Affordability: With healthcare costs rising by 12-14% post-COVID, affordable care is slipping out of reach for many. Insurers called for transparent, fair pricing. 📝 Pricing Transparency: Insurers highlighted issues like hidden fees and varying costs based on room type - even for simple tests like blood tests. To give you an example - The cost of a routine blood test is varying depending on the room category a patient chooses. This doesn’t seem fair, as the cost to the hospital for the test is the same regardless of the room type. 🤨 So hospitals and insurers discussed the need for standardised, upfront pricing so patients know what they are in for, and don’t receive any unwanted shocks during billing. ⌛ Efficient Discharge and Claims Processing: Discharge delays often arise due to billing and authorization issues. According to IRDAI, insurers should authorise claims within 3 hours. But many patients still experience longer wait times because hospitals delay sending bills or insurers take time to process requests. 🏛️ Call for Regulatory Supervision: Insurers proposed an independent, regulatory body to oversee hospital pricing practices, pushing for fair and accountable standards in healthcare. 🛏️ Bundling Costs: Some costs (electricity, bedsheet change, and on-duty medical staff) could be bundled into room fees, rather than billing them separately. Both parties, insurers and hospitals, agreed to align efforts, making healthcare more transparent and accessible. Let's hope these collaborative steps make a meaningful difference for patients and their families. 💬 What are your thoughts on this? Have you faced any such issues yourself? 10 Reasons Why Health Insurance Claims Get Rejected 🚨 Being covered under health insurance keeps you free from worries about healthcare expenses. However, the threat of claim rejection is one thing that can still stress you up. To manage that, there are some things that you can do on your end to heighten your chances of getting a claim. Here they are - 👉 Gain clarity on the claims process   👉 Prepare effectively   👉 Minimize unpleasant surprises What can cause a rejection? Here’s a list that you must check - 1. Hospitalization Not Required: If the treatment could have been handled with outpatient care or home treatment, your claim might be rejected. 2. Less Than 24 Hours of Hospitalization:   Many policies won't cover hospital stays under 24 hours unless they fall under specific Day Care procedures. These include treatments that once took 24+ hours but now require less time due to advances in medical tech, like cataract surgery. 3. No Active Treatment Provided: Hospital stays solely for observation or diagnostic purposes, without an active treatment plan to improve health, might be denied. 4. Failure to Follow Standard Protocols:   Insurers often need treatments to align with established protocols. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, AIIMS provided specific guidelines. Claims that didn’t meet these standards were denied. 5. Treating Doctor is a Family Member: Claims might be denied if the treating doctor is an immediate family member, due to the potential conflict of interest. 6. Non-Disclosure of Pre-Existing Conditions:   Failing to disclose past medical conditions is one of the top reasons for rejection. Insurers rely on complete and accurate information, so non-disclosure can jeopardize your entire policy. 7. Missing or Inadequate Documentation: Insurers need key documents, like initial consultation papers, to verify conditions and treatments. Missing documents could lead to claim denial. 8. Incorrect or Inconsistent Information Provided During Hospitalization: If accompanying family members or doctors accidentally provide information that conflicts with what’s on record, it may complicate the claim. 9. Excluded Treatments and Waiting Periods: Policies often come with time-bound exclusions and waiting periods, particularly for pre-existing conditions. Permanent exclusions like cosmetic surgery or non-accidental dental treatments also apply. 10. Treatment in Blacklisted Hospitals: If treated at a blacklisted hospital, insurers might reject the claim. The exception is in emergency situations, and only until the patient is stabilized. Tip: Always read the fine print on your policy and be transparent with your insurer. Small details can make a big difference in claims. 🔄 Share this with your network, and let’s make health insurance less intimidating together! 💪 #healthinsurance #claimrejection #explained #beshak #insurancetips #awareness

This card is universal, with no income restrictions. It aims to help families significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses for elderly care. 🔼 Launched alongside this scheme is the U-WIN portal, a comprehensive vaccination record system modelled after Co-WIN. This portal aims to support the well-being of pregnant women and children, ensuring timely administration of critical vaccines from birth up to 16 years of age. Currently, this initiative is active across most states and Union Territories, except for Delhi and West Bengal. But should our elderly parents SOLELY rely on Ayushman Bharat for Health Insurance?! 🤔 Well, while Ayushman Bharat offers valuable coverage, health needs are personal. Relying only on government plans may have limitations. A personal health insurance policy can serve as a reliable backup because: 👉 Government benefits can change, and coverage may vary. Personal health insurance gives you control over coverage and choice of hospitals. 👉 As we age, health coverage that adapts to our needs becomes crucial. So even if Ayushman Bharat is a great option, consider a plan that fills potential gaps for flexibility, control, and peace of mind.
