As we prepare for the upcoming Conscious Cities Festival in 2025, we are revisiting a coffee table book, titled "Forever Guwahati", published by Guwahati Metropolitan Authority (GMDA), Government of Assam (2014). The book outlines the journey of Guwahati from "a sleepy little village" to a "large metropolis". Although there have been many changes over the past decade since this book was published, nevertheless, as a reader, one can revisit the city's origins, movements of people, culture, mythology, urban affordances, and prominent architectural design and the reasons behind them. You will also find photographs of some of the Assam-type houses and how they still play a crucial role in preventing destruction during earthquakes. Let's not forget about the community-sustaining and transboundary river Brahmaputra and the attachments people have with it.
This festival, Conscious Guwahati, is exploring and expanding on the dialogue on how design can inspire the city to slow down and meaningfully build emotional bonds with its community for Health and Well-Being. Join us in March 2025!
