Over two years after the Reserve Bank of India introduced its new Regulatory Framework for Microfinance Loans, Dvara Research and Sa-Dhan Association conducted an in-depth study to evaluate its impact on microfinance customers and the industry. This research, carried out between February and September of this year, offers valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of the sector. Sowmini G Prasad presented key highlights from this study at the Sa-Dhan National Conference held in New Delhi on November 23rd. https://lnkd.in/gss2XhxW #research #fieldstudy #actionresearch #MFIs #loans #framework #RBI #conference

While the #Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) has emerged as the foundational technology enabling cash-in cash-out across the country, efforts by bad actors to defraud banking customers through it continue to be a pressing concern. The Reserve Bank of India, having taken note, had issued (draft) directions to all banks and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) regarding the onboarding and ongoing due diligence of AePS touchpoint operators. Among other things, the rules state that #NPCI and acquiring banks must ensure that any AePS touchpoint operator is onboarded only by one acquiring bank. Moving beyond the hype and success story of UPI in India, billion users with low to high digital proficiency do struggle with digital platforms and GRM/ Help or Customer care hasn't been effective for consumers. UPI service providers are also making effort in addressing complex challenges they face with consumers and merchants. The scale of this problem is huge but due to data opacity we don't have enough and diverse data driven insights. The UPI-GRM project has dvelved deep into understanding the challenges and problems faced by consumers and the end outputs have been solution based recommendations. This is a great example of how think-tanks and policy focused organisations need to go beyond knowledge creation in providing recommendations which are applicable and eaiser to adopt for stakeholders and industry. This practitioner focused approach for this project has been a great experience and I recommend all of you to go through the website where all the insights and solutions are freely availabe for public consumption. I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of understanding this complex product and its ecosystem which pushed me to think deeper. My interaction with many Indian researchers and designers has been great to know that with their full-time jobs, they still seek meaningful work which has an impact. This is a good example of consulting with civil society, government bodies and nonprofit organisations where you can apply your expertise, learn and grow. 🔊 #WorkshopAlert The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has solidified its position as a leading payment service, facilitating a staggering 13.4 billion transactions in March 2024. This is slated to cross 1 billion transactions per day by FY 2026-27, by some estimates. UPI is a prime example of a Digital Public Infrastructure that has seen tremendous success, impacting millions of lives. Today more than 80% of all UPI transactions are small, and less than Rs.500 each. As UPI expands further into remote Tier V and Tier VI locations, it has progressively brought under its fold, a tidal wave of first-time users who belong to low-income backgrounds, have low literacy or poor digital proficiency or a combination of these. At Dvara Research, we chose to think about these users and their pain-points in engaging with UPI. We found that users face challenges in engaging with Grievance Redress Mechanisms within UPI. That made us research further into the issue of grievance redress. Explore why we chose to solve this - https://lnkd.in/gc74dznZ We invite financial app #designers and #developers, #UI/ #UX experts, product heads from #banks and folks from the UPI ecosystem to attend a 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧-𝐚𝐩𝐩 𝐔𝐏𝐈 𝐆𝐑𝐌𝐬 on 𝟭𝟴𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 in 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗿𝘂. ℹ Click here to register: https://lnkd.in/gdR9AkPh Here's a film that captures the journey of our attempts at crafting a more effective in-app Grievance Redress Mechanism for the Indian UPI ecosystem Deepti George | Narayan Gopalan | Achyutha Sharma #UPI #GrievanceRedressMechanism #DvaraResearch #DPI #DigitalInfrastructure #Payments

In our latest blog, we present a checklist of design choices for creating more effective consent artefacts for Account Aggregators. Tailored for UI/UX designers and AA product managers, this toolkit uncovers design gaps that could lead to drop-offs and highlights key features to make consent more meaningful. The checklist is particularly relevant for digital loan applications, where customers are more likely to bypass the consent journey due to urgency. Based on our behavioural study, '𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐀 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤,' the findings reveal that consent artefacts often remain binding, incomprehensible, and unintuitive for users.
