Reproductive coercion isn’t just about personal relationships, it’s a systemic issue. From hiding birth control to pressuring someone into pregnancy or abortion, this form of control denies people, especially women and marginalised individuals, the right to make decisions about their own bodies. You’ve heard the word gaslighting, but do you know where it actually comes from? Before it became a buzzword for emotional abuse and manipulation, gaslighting was the title of a 1938 play where a man convinces his wife she's going insane by dimming the lights and denying it. The term now captures a very real and harmful form of psychological abuse that causes people, especially those from marginalised groups, to doubt their own experiences and reality.
