“As we work towards sustainability, our approach must align everyone under a shared vision and common goals—across functions and organizations. Building a truly sustainable supply chain requires a structured, multimodal strategy, where each initiative and milestone contributes to the larger vision. This is the path forward for lasting impact.” — Vikas Kalra, Co-Founder & Chief Business Officer, Fitsol at the ET Edge Manufacturing Transformation Summit 2025. #ETEdgeMTS2025 #MTS2025 #Innovation #Sustainability #ManufacturingLeadership

Imagine this : You're at the airport, excited for your next trip, but then you hear: "the announcement that your flight is delayed because of bad weather." Frustration sets in as you wonder how this will affect your plans. But have we ever thought about how traveling affects our planet? The aviation industry faces a tricky balance between the joy of flying and its significant carbon footprint amid climate change. Flying has transformed how we connect, but one of the industry’s biggest challenges is its environmental impact. According to the IATA, commercial aviation accounts for about 2-3% of global #CO2 emissions. While this may not seem huge, it adds up to hundreds of millions of tons of CO2 each year, raising concerns about climate change. What’s even more alarming is that these #emissions could rise by 3-4% annually if we continue flying at the current rate (IATA, 2023). With more people traveling, we must evaluate the environmental consequences of our love for flying. Let’s talk about how weather impacts our journeys. Data from the NOAA shows that severe weather contributes to around 30% of flight delays and cancellations in the U.S. That’s a significant disruption for travelers! A study from the University of California reveals that extreme weather events cost airlines over $1 billion annually due to these disruptions. This means missed business meetings and family gatherings—ultimately frustrating travelers and hurting airlines' profits. While considering carbon emissions and weather-related issues, we see a pattern emerge. The aviation industry grows and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, while climate change leads to unpredictable weather that disrupts flights. "Though these factors are connected, one does not necessarily cause the other". We must recognize how our flying habits interact with the challenges posed by climate change. But one might not be able to avoid the flight travels (including myself). Many #airlines are investing in carbon credit projects to offset emissions as one of the solutions: ✈️ #AirFrance supports reforestation projects in Brazil through the Plan Vivo initiative. ✈️ #Qantas invests in renewable energy projects in Australia and beyond to generate carbon credits. ✈️ #JetBlue backs projects that support sustainable forestry and methane capture. These initiatives show that airlines are taking steps to contribute to climate solutions and minimize their environmental impact. At Fitsol, we work on developing quality carbon credits based out of India and other developing countries. Reach out to us for carbon credit project development. We’re happy to help with the consultation or implementation of carbon reduction strategies. "Intervention of AI for a few parts of research." Exciting to see this progress! Fitsol has been at the forefront of managing Scope 3 emissions for leading organizations, and this marks a significant shift in how companies approach value chain decarbonization. Now, what does this mean for Sustainability Heads in Indian Companies? This is the right moment to bring Scope 3 emissions into the boardroom conversation. With structured frameworks like SBTi, CDP, and GHG Protocol, companies can now move beyond just tracking emissions and they can possibly monetize their Scope 3 emissions reductions, too. While it's still early days, these developments signal a transformative shift in accelerating the Net Zero transition. What’s even more promising is the ecosystem-level thinking behind this initiative. Future versions will introduce co-claiming models, allowing multiple stakeholders—suppliers, manufacturers, and intermediaries—to share the benefits of emission reductions. The road ahead is exciting, and this could be a game-changer for companies serious about sustainability and financial returns. #fitsol #decarbonization #S3S #scope3emissions #carbonmarket #ccts

Monetize your scope-3 emissions reductions!!! Scope 3 emissions have long been the missing link in corporate decarbonization. The new S3S Program by Verra aims to change that by introducing a structured, verifiable framework for tracking and reducing emissions beyond direct operations. This could unlock large-scale investment, drive corporate accountability, and reshape carbon markets. Standardized & Verifiable Scope 3 Credits Unlike traditional reporting frameworks, S3S issues Intervention Units (IUs), representing real, third-party-verified emission reductions, making claims more credible. Transparent & Investable Carbon Accounting A Scope 3 Registry enhances transparency, enabling co-investment and co-claiming, while ensuring data integrity in corporate disclosures. Beyond Reporting – Enabling Market Mechanisms S3S moves beyond passive tracking—by certifying interventions, it bridges corporate climate commitments with tangible, tradeable carbon credits. The shift from fragmented Scope 3 reporting to market-integrated carbon solutions is here, meaning you can monetize emissions arising out of your supply-chain. How I see this methodology morphing? 1. With this mechanism in place, any company that tracks its scope-3 emissions through the value chain will be able to claim credits, meaning IUs can be traded like carbon credits. 2. Moving on, there will be industry specific methodologies(Textile, Steel, Cement), meaning, sectors that are hard to abate will attract more investments to go green, bridging the gap for their green premium. 3. Insetting is going to explode - Considering insetting is extremely crucial to go NetZero, this methodology is going to be a game changer on the insetting front. Link for the public consultation/feedback page is in the comments. Note: The summary has elements of AI in it.
