Nature is our most valuable business partner, providing clean water, stable climates, fertile soils and pollination. As nature’s resilience declines, so too does the resilience of businesses and economies that depend on it. Our new film, featuring our Co-Chairs Razan Al Mubarak and David Craig, highlights why nature should be viewed as a strategic management issue by businesses and financial institutions. To hear first-hand from organisations adopting the TNFD recommendations, join tomorrow’s webinar 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gFe6kjui Register as a TNFD Adopter before 31 October 2025 to be announced at the UN Climate Change #COP30 - https://lnkd.in/eWXFXC9d #TNFD #Nature #SustainableFinance #Disclosure #TNFDAdopters #Climate
Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)
Financial Services
Enabling better nature-related risk management, corporate reporting and capital allocation.
About us
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has developed a set of disclosure recommendations and guidance that encourage and enable business and finance to assess, report and act on their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The recommendations and guidance will enable businesses and finance to integrate nature into decision making. Our aim is to support a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes, aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Launched in 2021, TNFD released the first beta versions its framework for consultation and feedback between March 2022 and March 2024. Over the two-year design and development phase leading to the publication of the TNFD recommendations in September 2023, it received feedback from over 60 countries. Over 200 pilot tests of a prototype framework were conducted by business and financial institutions around the world across sectors, geographies and biomes. TNFD published its final recommendation in September 2023.

🌊🧊Today is World Water Day with the focus on Glacial Preservation. Glaciers are critical to life – their meltwater is essential for drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production and healthy ecosystems. However, a warming planet is leading to accelerated melting, which – as shown by growing evidence – poses risks for businesses, capital providers, financial systems and economies, and these risks are increasing in severity and frequency. ⚡Critical global supply chains, from agribusiness to semiconductors, are facing disruptions from water shortages and water stress. However, when asked to do so by financial institutions, corporates are more than twice as likely to disclose their water dependencies than other dependencies*. The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) provides nature-related guidance to businesses and financial institutions to help them assess, manage and disclose their dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. ➡️Download the recommendations: https://ow.ly/jZfn50VlgwN This guidance provides 14 nature-related recommendations and the core global disclosure metrics for measuring and reporting on water. These recommendations and reporting metrics have a high level of alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards reporting requirements and datapoints: https://ow.ly/NHki50VlgwO To learn more about nature-related risks and opportunities, sector-specific guidance and to become a TNFD Adopter, visit https://ow.ly/7VAv50VlgwM Business resilience is dependent on the resilience of nature. 🌳🌲The International Day of Forests 2025 highlights the urgent need for conservation and restoration to protect these vital ecosystems. Today, we celebrate their rich biodiversity and raise awareness of the nature-related dependencies that exist for business and society. More than being a carbon sink, the intricate connection between forests, food security, medicine, fuel and water is often underestimated. Forests are critical providers of ecosystem services, sustaining billions globally. With more than 5 billion people relying on forests, they are also critical in supporting agriculture through pollination and soil enrichment. However, the accelerating rate of deforestation and fires is rapidly depleting these resources. Many sectors have a high dependency on the services and assets provided by our forests, either directly through their operations or via their supply chain, or indirectly. By using the TNFD recommendations and guidance, businesses and financial institutions can start to assess their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. Our guidance helps organisations understand their dependencies and impacts on forests around the world: 📔 The TNFD LEAP approach - https://ow.ly/F5ax50Vm2AF This is our core assessment methodology that helps organisations identify and assess their nature-related issues. 🌲 Forestry, pulp and paper - https://ow.ly/gabF50Vm2AT This guidance helps those in the forestry, pulp and paper sectors gain insights on their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. 🌏 Biomes - https://ow.ly/t9JM50Vm2Bb This guidance provides an understanding of biomes to inform an assessment of nature-related issues. ⛓️ Guidance on value chains: https://ow.ly/tz7E50Vh45B This guidance outlines value chain characteristics that can create challenges in assessing nature-related issues. On Monday, the TNFD’s Co-Chair, David Craig, joined the Sustainable Markets Initiative Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition in London to moderate a panel, “Nature as a strategic ally for business and finance”, with leading financial institutions and corporates already taking action on nature. The panel explored what it means for business and finance to look at nature as a strategic ally and a core part of risk management strategy, rather than considering nature an externality. Speakers shared how the TNFD recommendations and guidance are helping their organisations unlock resilience and value creation opportunities. ◾ The TNFD recommendations and guidance are helping organisations unlock resilience, growth and investment opportunities. ◾ Organisations are using the LEAP approach to pinpoint key nature risks within their business models and their investees, as well as identify opportunities for growth and innovation. ◾ Nature and climate are sitting side by side in organisational risk strategy, with companies looking at nature as an investable asset class and nature-based solutions as key climate solutions. This integrated outlook is helping business and finance secure their future value and business performance. ◾ Nature risk is already embedded in cashflows and sitting in investment portfolios – with TNFD’s tools and guidance, business and finance can assess, measure and manage that risk, and find the opportunities that will build resilience for the future. Over 500 companies and financial institutions have already become formal TNFD Adopters, but many more are using the TNFD LEAP approach and other tools and guidance to assess and manage their nature-related issues. At the end of the session, David Craig announced the launch of TNFD’s next global adoption campaign leading up to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025. Join the hundreds of leading organisations that have already embarked on this journey and be announced in our next cohort of #TNFD Adopters at #COP30. 🔗 Register as an Adopter – https://lnkd.in/gVxa7XUq
