Poverty is complex and goes far beyond just income levels - it touches various aspects of life such as education, healthcare, and basic living conditions. To truly understand and address poverty, it’s important to look at it from multiple angles. That’s where the "Multidimensional Poverty Index" (MPI) comes in. But what exactly is MPI, and why is it significant? In our latest #BytesByGiveGrants feature, we simplify the concept of MPI, explain its relevance in the Indian context, and explore how it provides a more comprehensive picture of deprivation. This note will help you cut through the jargon and understand why addressing multidimensional poverty is crucial for achieving sustainable development. Thanks to the Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI), University of Oxford for formalizing MPI and to NITI Aayog for launching the National MPI for India. Link to the full note in comments. atul satija | Sumit Tayal | Saurabh Adeeb | Somedutta Chatterjee | Tejashree Thatte | Stuti Sinha | Saravana kumar | Anupam Jain #GiveGrants #CSR #MPI #MDP #Poverty #MultidimensionalPoverty #Bytes #CorporateSocialResponsibility

At the India CSR & ESG Summit in New Delhi last week, atul satija (Founder 2.0 & CEO, Give) delivered an insightful keynote on "CSR for a Viksit Bharat." Viksit Bharat 2047 is India’s ambitious vision of becoming a developed nation by its 100th year of independence, driven by economic growth, environmental sustainability, social progress, infrastructure development, and advancements in education, healthcare, and tech. Nonprofits are set to play a key role in achieving this vision. Atul highlighted that CSR is the largest and fastest-growing pool of private philanthropic capital in India, growing at 14% YoY. He stressed the importance of long-term CSR partnerships to scale nonprofit programs effectively. While foundations and HNIs remain crucial for meeting unrestricted funding needs, CSR collaborations are essential for driving large-scale impact, bringing India closer to realizing the Viksit Bharat vision by 2047. Innovation demands a high risk appetite, a high tolerance for failure and a flexibility to pivot when needed. It therefore needs patient capital. That dynamic is the same across product development, sales, HR, finance or any other domain. CSR is no exception. Last week at the India CSR and ESG Summit in New Delhi, Sumit Tayal hosted a panel discussion on "patient capital for innovation", with CSR leaders from few of the largest companies in the tech industry - Kshitija Krishnaswamy (Accenture), Chetan Kapoor (Tech Mahindra), and Shipra Sharma (IBM). Grateful to all the panelists who shared critical insights, and backed them up with real-world examples of innovation in action. atul satija | Saurabh Adeeb | Somedutta Chatterjee | CSRBOX | Bhomik Shah | Lakshana Asthana #ices2024 #GiveGrants #CSR #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Innovation

Big things happen when someone takes the first step. India’s female labor force participation rate (LFPR) is just 37%, significantly below the global average. To become a $30 trillion economy by 2047, India must double the female LFPR to 70%, adding 400 million women to the workforce, potentially contributing a massive $14 trillion to our economy. Kudos to Zomato for picking this critical challenge by aiming to significantly increase the share of women in logistics roles across Zomato, Blinkit, and Hyperpure by Zomato. Give Grants recently had the privilege of participating in a workshop along with other key research partners like FSG, The Udaiti Foundation, Driver Ben, and Azad Foundation India. Together, we discussed crucial topics like gender perceptions, access to opportunities, skill development, and raising awareness - all in the context of women in logistics. We’re excited to be part of this journey and truly grateful for the chance to contribute to this important initiative and help shape a more inclusive future!
