Two shocking incidents were witnessed that changed everything for a group of young people in Chhattisgarh: a homeless woman was lured with food to an isolated place where she was sexually attacked and an old man developed an illness after eating rotten food out of a public garbage dump. This group of youngsters founded Feel Parmartham Foundation, a Chattisgarh-based NGO that rescues destitute elders from the streets and provides safe shelter, nutritious food, medical care and personal support. Since its founding, Feel Parmartham Foundation has rescued and transformed the lives of countless elders and needs your support to continue supporting more homeless elders. Despite constant threats, Manju Singh and her NGO, Guria, have rescued over 5,500 women and girls from the horrors of forced prostitution in India's red-light districts. Founded in 1993, Guria provides urgent medical care, trauma counseling, and education to these survivors, helping them rebuild their lives. Manju fearlessly works with the police to prosecute traffickers and brothel owners, bringing justice to those who exploit young girls. Stand with Manju in her fight to end trafficking and give these girls the freedom they deserve - https://lnkd.in/gPVCD2pa

The Supreme Court of India’s recent verdict held that any involvement with pornographic material involving children is an offence under the POCSO and IT acts. It held that viewing, downloading, storing, possessing, distributing, or displaying sexually explicit material involving children is a crime that continues to harm the child long after the criminal act has taken place. The verdict was in response to a petition filed by an NGO challenging that “the mere possession or storage of pornographic material was not an offence”. Furthermore, the Supreme Court also advocated using the term Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material or CSEAM instead of “child pornography”. This ruling is a step forward to end the sexual exploitation of children. #supremecourt #supremecourtofindia #csa

Animals are a valuable part of our lives, societies and civilizations. The earliest recorded historical texts shed light on the fascinating relationship between humans and animals, who were used for protection, hunting, agriculture, clothing, transport and of course companionship. In India, animals form a crucial part of our diverse cultures and are also protected by law. While there are different types of animals all around us, the 3 main types of animals that we come across in our lives include pets, strays and working animals. But even though they are crucial to human existence, all 3 of these animals – pet animals, stray animals and working animals – suffer from abuse, abandonment and exploitation. Akshaya Trust rescues and cares for old and abandoned parents who are left on the streets and have no one to help them.
