In 1900, the Paris Olympic Games marked a historic milestone as 𝒇𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 in five events: tennis, sailing, croquet, equestrian, and golf. Only 22 women participated, making up a mere 2.2% of the 997 total competitors. Over the past 25 years, the IOC has been actively working with National Olympic Committees and International Federations (IFs) to enhance female participation in the Olympic Games. Significant changes include: -Expanding eligibility in various sports -Setting quota places by the IOC, filled by the IFs -Increasing the number of medal events for female athletes This year, the Paris Olympic Games have made history by 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 50% 𝒇𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. The IOC is not only aiming for statistical parity but also recognizes that every opportunity provided for women's sports and female athletes in the Olympic Games has a ripple effect in promoting gender equality and enhancing opportunities for women athletes globally. This expectation persists despite the fact that cooking is a basic necessity for everyone. In India, men often remain distant from domestic chores. Even when both partners are working, the woman's job is sometimes viewed as a "hobby," and if the meal isn't cooked, she is blamed. This is not just unfair but also unsustainable. It's time to challenge these outdated gender roles and create a more equitable distribution of household responsibilities.
